Use ascendant or keep for better gear ?
Should I keep the ascendant material for better gear or should I upgrade the current one ?
It seems rational to get to lvl 28 fast - then all the 'valuable' activities should be easier (due to destiny's damage system) and I should get more better gear. So if I should upgrade then which upgrade should get me more light ? Exotic or legendary or doesn't matter ?
I think that first I should upgrade the armor then go for weapons, as this should actually get me to lvl 28 ?
My current gear:
- weapons
scout and machine gun all legendary from vanguard
exotic sniper - Patience and Time
- armor
helmet and gauntlets all legendary from vanguard
exotic armor from Xur - Voidfang Vestments
raid shoes

I suposse getting the shards is not much of a problem (raid, daily story, public events) , the real thing is getting the raid gear !

I used all my shards to upgrade my legendary gear as quickly as possible on both my toons and on an extra exotic helm...Got raid boots on one toon and raid chest on the other....Since those have been maxed out, I have collected over 25 shards..... So, the answer is to max everything out, you will get more shards, you can be assured of that.

Use it when neccessary, for example to get to a higher level so you can go on the VoG, Nightfall etc.

Ahh yeah .. In the mean time I've found exotic gauntlets sunbreakers and exotic helm skull of dire ... Depending on what I'll get from next raids I might switch to other exotic pieces ;p

2 RepliesIve notice most people care mostly about the levels and forget about balancing intellect, discipline and strength.. Let alone the different abilities each piece of armor has.. I used all my shards on regular legendary armor to make it easy to raid.. I play more than you probably soI it works for me.

Upgrade your raid boots and exotic piece. Save the others for raid pieces to replace them unless you have the materials to spare like i do.

I have to decide what weapons should I upgrade now - gonna max my patience and time, and dunno about the rest I'm kind of not satisfied with the rest - don't like my machine gun, but it's the only legendary heavy I could find; and the scout rifle seems a bit under-powered :(

keep for better gear. you can raid at 27 pretty effectively. i used mine on my vanguard gear. now i can not level my raid gear hahaha.

max exotic armour and raid gear only don't waste your shards. As for guns max a fav primary and a void special and a rocket launcher your good to go.

Edited by WTFisTrue: 10/27/2014 10:49:15 AMOnly use shards on your Exotic gear until you get either raid gear or the upcoming Iron Banner gear. Other wise it's kind of a waste. As for weapons: use them in whatever you think you will use the most, or whatever your favorite weapon is.

Have thorn, hawkmoon, thunderlord, the swarm & a void epitaph maxed so it's whatever is gonna be the best compliment to my arsenal for switch ups.

Also, once you get better gear you can always break down the old stuff. You should get a shard or two from legendary armor. As for weapons, level the ones you use most. Make them stronger killing machines.

I don't no when I'm gonna get to raids but it does seem and brainer to save them I personally upgraded my gear to the part where shards were needed the only item I used shards on was my wxotic chest piece and one upgrade on requiring shards just to smash through to level 28

1 ReplyKeep it, just read the updates. You can get the same raid gear bonuses/light at the next iron banner event and wear 2 of them in the same slot. So basicly if you have 1 raid piece, 1 exotic you can get lvl 30 when the iron banner event is online

Hey, here's my penny: As there is no limit on what you can potentially receive in the way of ascendant material why not spend them? You have significantly better chances of completing high level raids and weekly missions efficiently when you're at a higher level. Using the material to get you to a decent level could be the difference between this game being challenging to frustrating during gameplay.

3 RepliesI did a part of the VoG today (from start to last checkpoint of atheon) but I didn't receive any gear and any of ascendant material !? Other thing is that all except one of the chests in raid didn't give me a thing - the one got me shards !? Could you explain this, would really appreciate any info.

3 RepliesYour goal is to get to level 29 so you can do the hard raid. So if you have the worst luck in the world , the most you would need a peice of exotic armor and 3 legendary at max level to hit 29. If you are average luck, you will get 1 exotic peice of armor, and 1-2 raid amors and the rest legendary. If you are really lucky, you will have 1 exotic helmet and 3 peices of raid gear from normal raid and you will be level 30. I suggest leveling up the legendaries until you get raid gear. My 2 cents.

Did as You guys suggested - maxed the exotic chest and got a legendary shoes that I'm upgrading now ... and lvl 28 :) One more question - can I do multiple RAIDS in a week, or I won't be rewarded for the next ones ?

Damn ! Maxing the legendary armor (without shards) and boosting the exotic chest piece to the max (with shards) isn't enough to get to lvl 28 :( just a tiny bit is missing :(

Shards are easy. Raid gear is hard. Lvl to 29 and the raid is easier. You get shards in so many places. For example your max vanguard marks is 200 so once you get what you need buy and melt stuff for easy shards/energy.

1 ReplyI made the mistake of using shards on non-raid legendary's. I would strongly recommend to only upgrade what's needed to get you over the cusp of 28. Exotics give the same amount of light that raid legendary's do, so prioritize leveling those first. after level 28 is reached, only spend your shards on raid gear.

4 RepliesTo get to level 29, you will need 1 fully upgraded exotic piece, I recommend the helmet as it is the most expensive and hardest to get in the raid. Two fully upgraded legendary pieces, and one half upgrade legendary. Then you wait for raid gear.

Don't use them on vanguard crap Keep the Shards for raid gear. Do the raid on Easy only and buy an exotic helmet and u should eventually get a full set in few months.
