What "Exotic" should mean.

So I think we can all agree that, for the most part, having an exotic means nothing. Most if not all exotics are obtained entirely based on RNG. Your weapons and gear don't say anything abut your accomplishments, save for a few things you can only get from the Vault. Even then, saying, "You could maybe be able to get an exotic from the VoG, or the nightfall. Maybe." Is ridiculous. We should work for our exotics. Remember back in the hype days when we were told of the legendary Thorn held in Charlemagne's vault? How the only way to obtain to obtain this beast of a weapon was to go through this nigh-impossible experience? Well how about instead of that, we randomly give out an exotic bounty that just has you grind specific things, then you can have it. Which leads me to my proposal. Exotic weapon bounties are a great step in the right direction. But the execution of the system was horrible, it's 90% RNG, and it only gives out ~5 mediocre weapons. All the others are 100% RNG. So how do we fix this, as well as the obvious problem of Xur? Well, we have Xur not sell exotics, but bounties. And this bounties are no "Spend a few minutes looking for a chest on Mars, run around between 2 vendors, kill people in the Crucible, go to a vendor, here's your exotic." With these bounties, if you see someone with The Last Word, you go "Holy -blam!- this guy is a -blam!-ing boss how did he do that bounty you have to be a god with hand cannons omfgbrbwtfbbq" These bounties would actually make you abandon them after weeks of attempting to finally prevail, but you won't be able to because you aren't worthy. Of course, there would be exotics that aren't quite so hard to get, but still require work. These would be OK, but really on Bad Juju/Hardlight ish tier. The REAL exotics would require extreme talent and skill. TL;DR The armor on your back and the weapon in your hands should represent you, your skill, and your Legend. Not that you were blessed by RNGsus. Feedback and suggestions are welcome. Ideas on specifics for the possible implementation of a similar system are welcome.

  •
ex·ot·ic iɡˈzädik/ adjective 1. originating in or characteristic of a distant foreign country. "exotic birds" synonyms: foreign, nonnative, tropical,
I don't see anywhere in that definition that suggests that exotic is synonymous with the rarity of a item

I think exotics are perfect the way they are. You are limited to equipping one exotic, and that's why it's called exotic. After 250 hours in this game I have about half the exotics. With the odds of Duplicates I doubt after 500 hours I'll have all the exotics, I might never get all of them. That doesn't really matter though because I can only equip one. Once you literally have one exotic it doesn't matter how many more you get because you can only equip one. Do you equip the one you had or the new one you just got? Everyone could have the same legendary main/secondary/heavy equipped. Exotics are different. You can only use 1/3 for weapons 1/4 for armor. That means if you use an exotic primary it's exotic because you won't see everyone running around with it even if everyone owned it. Certain exotics I can see being more often equipped- but it seems there's multiple choices for each type of exotic as well. Some people use icebreaker some use patience and time. Some use Gjallarhorn some use truth. I love collecting exotics. Don't ruin something for the illusion of feeling special. Do you really need that? How can an exotic represent you if you can't ever find the one that actually fits you? Would it be more of a crime to deny the exotic that would enhance someone's play style, or force someone to equip some exotic they don't care about because it's the only one they can find? Making that special piece of gear that defines your play style rarer, doesn't enhance the game for anyone.
