I challenge the entire Bungie community

Give me a reason to play PvP. Edit: Here I will post the most popular answers and my response to them. "Bounties" -The bounties are more of a chore than a reason to play. You grind bounties for little reward. I'll go as far to say that bounties encourage you to play in ways you dislike i.e. get _ kills with _ weapon. Bungie, keep your bounties. "For fun" -It is fun... for maybe a game or two. But then you realize there's only a few game types to choose from. The terrible maps do not help either. "For marks/gear" -The gear is next to useless. RNG is horrible in crucible. Equal or better gear can be bought from vanguard. "To win" -Win what, exactly? The match? No point really. There's no difference in loot win or lose, save a couple useless crucible marks. No risk of gaining or losing rank. Winning just doesn't matter. "Don't play it if you don't like it" -That's not the issue. I love pvp. I couldn't stop playing halo 3 multiplayer. Even on Reach, although not as much, I invested may hours into. The reason being that there was a point in winning. There was a ranking system. Even Reach attempted to remain competitive with the arena. But Destiny doesn't have a competitive bone in it's body. Also, even if I didn't enjoy pvp, exotic bounties force players into the crucible. Even those that want no part of it. So not playing it just isn't an option for some. Edit 2: Some people have figured out the true purpose of this post. It's to lay out the things that need fixing in PvP. Some people recommend straight up avoiding it because of the issues. So here's something we can do to show our opinions on how to make PvP more enjoyable as well as more competitive. -Add a competitive ranking system. -Make PvP exclusive items more powerful (somewhat similar to raid gear maybe? ) -Take out RNG. Instead, give out an appropriate number of crucible marks to match how well you played. -Balance the maps. -Add more game types. -Make bounties worth it. Make some more creative bounties instead of the usual grind. Please feel free to contribute to the list. Maybe with enough support Bungie will realize how disappointed the majority of the community is with the PvP.

  • I'm not disappointed with it, I enjoy playing with my friend. (Hate losing tho...but it happens.) Just like anything in this game; you gotta find the reason for yourself. Other's opinions won't make it fun.

  • I have read your post, and my reason is: because it's fun, and even if you don't get anything out of it at the end of the day, you still find a feeling of "yeah, I did that." I once got an eighteen kill streak on my least favorite map. I was on bravo team, which always loses. I was on a map that I had never won a single game on, even though I had played almost a dozen matches on that map. Almost everyone on my team had a decent k/d, and when the final screen came up, I. Got nothing. Not a single freaking green to cash in for cheap glimmer. Nothing. I looked down the list of my team (we were undermanned and against a full team) an saw nothing. Nobody got a single freaking thing. Not one. But do I regret it? No! I won that kill streak and held up my team against all odds. It didn't matter that I hadn't gotten squat for it, because I felt like I was the best player ever.

I think once they fix the team mic issue and add more playlist types it'll be fun. Seriously bungie, no team mic? I'm all about "all around mic", and if you want to communicate to your team then you have to press down on one of the directional buttons. This made Halo 2 epic for me. Bring it back please.

You could ask that question of all video games really. Why bother? Is there any practical, real-life pay off for doing so? Any goal you're working towards in Destiny (or any game) is ultimately an empty trophy that just makes you feel good at the end of the day. Going back to your PVP argument, there might not be an overt ranking system but you can at least divine that you're better than most if you place in the top positions often enough. At the end of the day, winning doesn't matter in PVP or PVE. You might get really nice gear from one or the other but that only drives you to do either activity to gain the materials necessary to make said gear better so that you're more likely to get BETTER gear than that by being tougher and deadlier in each mode. Either mode is a cycle designed to keep you playing. In another game I played for a while, there was a group of PVErs that would make money in one of the most lucrative activities so that they could buy equipment that would make that activity more profitable more quickly. Endless cycle of making money to spend it on something that would make you money quicker. It's kind of all-pervasive. So why PVP? Try and make the top three each match; then you can at least say: I'm better than X percent of players out there (insert math for objective answer). Make top ranks and take a screenshot when you're number one with twice as many kills as the next highest player and all the other folks got loot drops and you didn't get anything so you can send it to Bungie to illustrate how crappy it is.

I pretty much agree with your question of what's the point in playing PvP. Played quite a bit of PvP, it's just... there's only so much PvP you can do before you get pretty much bored of the same scenarios playing out. I have to admit though, as strange as it may be... I actually enjoy sniping in the crucible, no matter what map. Once I upgrade Patience and Time a bit more to unlock active-camo, I'll be going back in there I guess. Just to see how effective it is. One of my first ever crucible games at lvl 20 a couple of days after the game's release, I got a purple engram at the end of the game and it gave me an exotic titan helm which I've been using ever since. :P RNG ftw sometimes. Also got MID-MULTI TOOL scout rifle from a crucible game months later!

      • Dude you clearly are going to twist any answer into a negative reason to prove your own point. Nothing anybody says is going to convince you since you've clearly already made up your mind.

      • My reason for you to play PvP: Tea-Bagging pisses people off and raises their anger making them want to try harder and throw themselves in the open so you can shoot them in the urethra.

        • If you don't take it too serious, its fun. I am horrible at PvP, most of the time I just laugh at the new and interesting ways I die. I do put forth effort if I am on a team. But rumble, I dance, wave, suicide grenade toss melee someone(fails 9 outta 10 times but the 10th is great!).

          • I agree with your statement as well. I'd rather spend hours arming materials to trade for marks than actually play pvp to get them.

          • Sorry, I'm in the same boat as you. At best, I'd have to go with the marks/gear part due to more than half of the vender gear being cru. mark only. At the bare minimum, it allows a player to effectively double harvest marks so one purchase can be broken down for potential energy/shards.

I would rather play PVE with my controller upside down and with my hands behind my back than play PVP.
