Scout Rifle Design Question - Just Curious

I've always been intrigued by sci-fi weapon designs, and modern real weapon designs for that matter. I enjoy coming up with theories on how these weapons function based on what the designer intended. However, while looking at the common scout rifle design in Destiny I noticed a problem that got me thinking; if the magazine is located under the thumb-hole in the stock, how are rounds loaded into the chamber? The only plausible answer I can come up with is that the ammunition is not tradition bullet/casing style ammo, but something totally different. I know this has literally nothing to with actual gameplay, and doesn't change the fact that scout rifles still look sweet, but I am just curious if anyone else has considered this issue. It would be great to hear what ideas you guys have.

  • It's a bull pup design. Common in some firearms today. Look up the Steyr-AUG or the IWI Tavor. Both real life bull pup assault rifles that place the magazine and bolt/chamber/action behind or right above the firing controls. The benefits of this design are you can still have a standard barrel length in a very compact overall length. The downside is slightly less efficient weapon manipulations.
