Briefly describe your politics.

I'll start. I'm an American and I think I live in the best country in the world. I'm a Republican with a liberal stance on social issues, but a strong conservative stance on economic, military, and foreign policy issues. I'm pro-Israel and pro-gun. I am against Obamacare and most other federal programs. FEMA would be alright if it worked, but it doesn't, and I'm from New Orleans so I know exactly how incompetent they are. Obama sucks. (To be fair, Bush sucked too, but Obama is worse.) I wouldn't call myself a libertarian, but I do believe in individual rights and small government. My left-leaning social politics are influenced by those principles. People should be allowed to do what they like as long as they're not hurting anyone else. Smoke pot. Get married if you're gay. Who cares? In fact, my only truly conservative social stance is that I'm pro-life, which is influenced by my belief that a fetus counts as a human being. I am a Christian, but I believe strongly in separation of church and state. I do not want the law to be dictated by anyone's religious beliefs, not even my own. I believe in our Constitution. I believe in justice, not "fairness". I support legal immigration, but not illegal aliens. I believe in business, but I am anti-corporation. I think the federal government should encourage small business rather than feeding into the hands of their corporate overlords. I believe in the War on Terror, but I think it has been poorly executed. We didn't need to invade Iraq. We've spent far too much time in Afghanistan. That's pretty much it. You?

  • I look at our economic structures through a Marxist lense. Capitalism and currency give everything a value , including an individual and their time. Little is based on well being and everything is based off of competition to obtain profit. This limits the time for an individual to explore their own consciousness destroys the planet through consumerism and materialism. On social issues I am progressive.

Everything's broken. Everyone argues over the very small things that separate parties and act like they're all vastly different sides of the spectrum. We root for political parties like sports teams and overlook the constant stream of shit we're getting spoon fed on a daily basis. It hasn't been getting better. It isn't going to get any better in the foreseeable future. Welcome to America. So where does that fall on the political compass?

  • I'm a registered Republican although I hardly agree with either of the parties. I just chose the GOP because there is more room for dissenting opinions and ideological diversity within the party whereas I feel the Democrats are more uniform and less open to diverse opinions. Socially I consider myself a liberal on most matters. I don't care if homosexuals get married, I don't think religion should be involved in government, I oppose capital punishment, I support environmentalism because I like to hunt, hike, & fish, and I think non-abortifacient contraception should be widely available. The only exceptions in which I consider myself socially conservative are firearms ownership and abortion. I am strongly pro-2nd Amendment and believe that everybody who can pass a background check should be allowed to purchase every and any firearm they want--including select fire weapons-and that both open and concealed carry should be legal no permits required for every law-abiding adult. I believe that abortion is a great evil and as a Mexican I consider it an extension of the racist eugenics movement that targeted my ancestors for their color. Margaret Sanger called us "human weeds" and many of those associated with Planned Parenthood (originally the American Birth Control League) were outspoken eugenists who had connections with -godwinslaw!- Germany, such as Lathrop Stoddard, Madison Grant, and the IBM which taught Hitler how to orchestrate the Holocaust. Economically I believe that a mixed economy is best. We should promote the free market, the incentive to work and make money, and entrepreneurship--however, at the same time we need to employ some checks and balances to ensure that everybody plays fair and that corporations do not harm and exploit the economy for their own gain. Diplomatically I believe that we should readopt isolationism. No more interference in other nation's affairs, and for the love of heck, stop supporting Israel because all our problems in the region started with Israel, no more supporting Syrian rebels, Saudi despots who fund terrorism, and especially don't support the Arab Spring or Ukraine. We should squash our beef with Russia because they can make a powerful ally, and we should have backed Saddam Hussein because he maintained stability in the region. Governmentally I support a democratic republic and believe that the government should stay out of the states' affairs and people's lives in almost all regards except where federal law is concerned.

    • Wow, I have extremely similar political beliefs. Aside from the pro-life we agree completely. I would also go on to say i don't have much trust in the federal government as the war on terror is a joke that has only hurt us by way of the patriot act

-no free handouts -If you want something, put in the effort -let people do what they want so long as it doesn't directly hurt other people(I'm talking physically, not "waah he hurt my feelings") -Government is to provide protection from foriegn and domestic threats, internal order, and infrastructure(roads, public facilities, national parks, public schooling). Everything else like welfare and healthcare should be done away with -equality, not equity -I think that if a person performs very poorly in school(bad grades, disruptive, etc), rather than trying to have the schools accomodate them, they should be shipped off to learn a trade, or do menial labor. No sense in ruining the education of several individuals in order to accomodate one.

            • My politics: I used to be very liberal. These days I not only consider myself more moderate, but I pay less attention to politics. I'm not exactly willing to endorse all the people protesting in the wake of Mike Brown's shooting, and I think Occupy Wall Street was a similarly disorganized movement that ruffled a few feathers, but didn't accomplish anything. Still think the Tea Baggers are scum, especially after the temper-tantrum they threw in Congress late last year... did anybody think for one minute that Obama and the Democrats were going to just give up the victory they had with pushing Obamacare through after fighting for it tooth and nail over two years before? Aside from that, I feel that in the United States, the citizens are ultimately in control, and it is THEY who are the source of the woe in this country, not the politicians or even the 1%... because the citizens are the ones who continue to buy the sub-par products and services of the super-wealthy corporations that want monopolies in so many industries, and also consistently re-elect politicians based on how good they are at spewing forth the talking points they like in the months before election day. TL;DR: The United States of America is a place with people in it.
