A Random test

Note: I'm working on making a video of said test, so there is visual evidence. However, for now, if you're skeptical, feel free to copy my test and see. The Test: take 5 Scout Rifles and compare the damage on the same target, to gauge the difference in damage rating and how effective upgrades are. Why Scout Rifles? other then it's what I happened to have on hand at the time, I felt it would give me the best constant results in the shortest time. The Target: Lvl 2 Vandal on Earth, right off the player spawn point. The Rifles: Uncommon Trax Mallus III 132 Damage no Kinetic No damage upgrade Rare Vesta Noblese 224 Damage Kinetic No damage upgrade Rare Naraka SR5 184 Damage Kinetic No damage upgrade Legendary Cryptic Dragon 267 Damage Kinetic 2 Damage upgrades Exotic MIDA Multi-Tool 267 Damage Kinetic 1 Damage upgrade Results: The uncommon, 2 rares and Legendary rifle did 199 damage on a headshot, all at the same distance, from a elevated position. The Exotic Rifle did 179 damage from the same distance and an elevated position. Now, I'd like to do further testing with the other weapon classes and some that are fully upgraded, but what I'm gathering from this, is either damage marked on the rifle doesn't really reflect how much damage it will deal, or damage is done as a percentage. Either way, the theory has holes in it, as the exotic rifle did less damage whiling having the higher attack number. If you have anything too add, please, feel free to comment. I don't expect everyone to be positive or even polite, but I can hope.

  • Take the same rifles and use them against a lvl 24 enemy. The ones with 240 attack plus will do more damage because attack rating only allows you to do full damage (your impact stat) to higher level enemies. For instance, 130 attack mean it does full damage on enemies up to level 13. 240 attack for enemies up to level 24. Impact is your damage, attack rating is the level of enemy you can get full use of your impact stat against. A level 2 only requires 20 attack for full damage so almost any weapon in the game will do full damage to it, making your lower level weapons appear to do more damage while your higher level weapons will do more to end game enemies.

  • I just happened upon this conversation. I have been searching for info on this topic because I have done the same thing w a few of my scout rifles. What I've found is crazy. My naraka sr5( fully upgraded to 242 w explosive rounds) is totally laying waste to my legendary a1f19(fully upgraded to 300 w firefly ) . When I'm on patrol it(sr5) kills dregs , and regular vandals w one shot. With the a1f19 it takes two unless it's a head shot. The damage w the a1f19 is 325 and the naraka is in the 400's . Now if I headshot and firefly the damage on the a1f19 is 700. Plus w the vex the explosive rounds seem to confuse the "ai" and they start walking in circles responding to missed shots that explode near them. I'm probably missing something here ( my gear or some perk I'm not aware of) but one shot on an enemy is one shot.

  • Hmm I gonna assume the distance was constant, but what about the impact on the guns? Surely some had higher or lower than others.

    • First off, Attack power does not equal damage. That's a complex formula determined by distance, attack power, impact rating, and level verses distance, level, and defense of the target. Headshots and body shots will also skew if proper aim is not taken. DPS is limited by Rate of Fire meaning while some weapons lack single shot impact high damage, they make up for it with more shots in a smaller time period which can also skew the results if notation isn't taken. In short, you need to do far more documentation and experimentation before presenting such findings. There's far more at work then you're aware of.

      • Perhaps the exotic rifle shoots a little faster than the others, perhaps with more ammo in the mag making it do a little more DPS??
