The plot is in the game's name, and the setting.
That rifle you get when you start. Barely, BARELY better than something that would exist right now.

The cars.
The Traveler's name is the TRAVELER. (Time) Traveler.
The game is called Destiny. The game is about the Traveler (and us) doing something that has to do with our destiny. A grimoire card speaks to this---how things fight against mortality and call it all unfair but it's not unfair it's that the universe doesn't give a shit and living things must be temporary.
The game is called DESTINY. We're trying to alter our destiny. The darkness is the inevitability of us being temporary.

They only drop the name once in the intro when the Speaker says something along the lines of "it was our destiny to travel amongst the stars". I could have sworn in the original plot there was something with the name Destiny in it that was vital to the story. A item? Location? I can't remember right now. Tried to avoid Destiny info until the game released so I wouldn't get overhyped.

There is a line in a story mission about "sealing time" (or similar) and weapon descriptions that include "somehow binds space and time" and "parts of it should not exist yet". There is most certainly something time related going on here.

While I think you make a fair point to life in general, I feel like there is alot more to it then that. I think it speaks more to one never knows their destiny. You're character's destiny is to become a legend. I base this off of Ghost fragment: The traveler 3 "Dreams of Alpha Lupi The knife had a million blades. And you were giant, powerful and swift. But the knife pinned you. Cut your godly flesh away. Very little was left, you are sure, because you feel insignificant now. The hard slick heart of your soul: That is what remains. A body small as a river stone, and just as simple. You picture yourself as a piece of indigestible grit, a nameless nothing hiding among other nameless stones. Perhaps you glitter like a gem, yes. Pride makes you hope so. If only you could see yourself. But you have no eyes. Not the dimmest sense survives. What lives is memory, and what slim portion of these thoughts can you trust? The knife stole much more than your body." My guess is either you, your ghost, or (least likely) all the ghosts is the missing soul of the traveler. I'd be willing to put money on it being you though. You're ghost is so sure that he (it?) picked "the right one". And while IRL everyone gets the same cut scene and story line, in the game world all the other gaurdians are just normal guardians and you're the one special one. In summery, I think your thoughts apply to life, but in the game it's called destiny because you cannot change your destiny and your destiny is to be a legend. (that was based on history and will eventually turn to myth. 10,000 cool points if you get this reference.)
