Hunting for Stars Part 2

The Queen regarded him with mild irritation, “Surely you must have known. The Traveller raises corpses to do its bidding, speaks through a faceless priest and orders the annihilation of several species without so much as a reason other than the blanket threat of its encroaching enemy.” “But it brought the Light. It ushered in the Golden Age and allowed us to claim the stars. How could it be the very evil it wants to destroy?” “There is no Darkness without the Light just as how the Light cannot exist without the Darkness. Both are inexplicably intertwined. When you did the work of the Light, you are merely the fulcrum upon which the status quo swings.” When she sighed at his confusion, it was with a hint of boredom. For a moment Novac feared she would dismiss him but fortunately, she continued. “The Darkness is the eternal enemy of the Traveller because it grows from within, like a virus. Everything that the Traveller touches will be corrupted in time. In the end, it is a slave of his design. What it creates, it must also destroy. The countless worlds it has brought stability to were razed by its eternal enemy and thrown into chaos. The Fallen and The Cabal have faced this threat on their own worlds and they have travelled here to combat it. But while they possess powerful weapons, their logic contradicts their prowess in science. And in that, they are far more cognizant of the truth than human or Exo or even Awoken. To them, the Traveller is the Darkness and as soldiers of the Traveller, so are you.” “Where does this leave me then? Given my current Ghost-less situation?” She smiled and leaned back into the throne, “Why, in the same position as the other Guardians who have lost their little lights.” “There are...others?” he stammered. Inside, his emotions raged against him and Novac fought for calm despite himself. “There are many,” she said and his emotions got the better of him. “This…this is not possible,” he stammered, “it makes no sense. You must be mistaken.” “Careful,” she said, her voice taking on a dangerous edge, “We humour you only at our discretion.” “My apologies your Majesty but this is too much to bear. I came here seeking for a means to save The Traveller and you offered me with the way into the Black Garden. I thought that was where I destroyed The Darkness,” The Queen stood up and her guards immediately moved to follow her. She walked to the edge of the dais and looked down at Novac, the once nonchalant expression replaced with a sudden fierceness. “It was an experiment to determine if The Darkness could be subdued. By destroying the heart, you proved that this was possible. But it was merely a temporary measure. Before long, it will return and we all shall be right back where we started.” Novac pondered her ominous words then, steeling himself, he asked, “How do we stop it?” “On Mercury, there is a Hunter – an agent of ours – and one like you. She too, has lost her Ghost but has found purpose elsewhere. Head to Caloris Valley and seek out Siryn-6. Tell her we sent you,” she sat back down, the familiar neutral expression returned to her face. “Now go Guardian and do not return again until we call for you.” Novac bowed deeply, appreciative of her answers but he left with a heavy heart back to his ship. His mind was filled with questions and the answers that he received did little to assuage his predicament. Still, at least, he had a purpose now, however brief. Mercury; that was where he had to go to find Siryn-6. Hopefully, the Exo Hunter would have more answers for him. Novac settled into the seat of his ship and as he pulled out of the dock and ignited his thrusters with a trajectory toward Mercury, he hoped he had enough gear to protect himself from the harsh heat of the day and the bitter cold of its night. Part 1 ( for those who have yet to read): http://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/71190500/0/0 So this is the end. I'm not sure if I'll continue but I do hope you guys enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed writing it. I understand this idea is the popular theory right now and given the current state of the game, it's hard to disagree.
