Basically what I'm suggesting is that upon upgrading a primary weapon to max you will be able to obtain an elemental damage type, much like how Special and Heavy weapons do by default. I was thinking that after fully upgrading your weapon you could take it to the gunsmith who would then be able either put one of the three elemental types onto the gun for a nice chunk of glimmer (Exotics and Legendaries cost more), or, alternatively, send you on an optional quest to bestow one of the three types onto your gun (once again scaled based on rarity.)
Or it could just be a free choice upon fully upgrading the weapon, but I'm not a fan of this option.
Another thought while I'm on the topic, how would people react to being able to change the damage type that their weapons did? Obviously this wouldn't just be a click away and would take time and energy to change, but I think it would be a neat idea for you to change a Solar Sniper into a Void or Arc one instead. Thoughts?

If anything Xur should sell an upgrade for exotics and legendaries(Seperate items) and have them cycle randomly each week, that way you can't just buy all of them...I say 5 or 10 strange coins would be a reasonable price for one. (One time use of course ex. You can only use it on 1 weapon per modifier)
