Some views on Destiny, good and bad... it all depends where you sit.

I am not an avid player as I use to be, I am married, and just hit my 40th, you can imagine that I don't have the time any more to play like I use to. Before being married, before being engaged, and even before having a girlfriend, and if I wasn't working you'd see me attached to the computer playing games. 10 hours to 20 hours a day if I was let to my own vices. I am now down to 4 to 5 hours a day if I am lucky, and a dozen hours on the weekend. I do a few crucible games, a few runs and play solo by myself when I get tired of the human interaction and lack of communication in game at times, that being said, I got the Ghost Edition because I am a huge Bungie fan. I also pre-ordered games to get the extra skins, etc so I would have the full effect of the game. In any case, I unpacked it and downloaded the game the night it was released. As the game was downloading, I redeemed my codes... and this is where my story begins. I went to the Vanguard Quartermaster, and went to see what I could get since I was told with the “Ghost Edition” I would have first dibs at it… and well, I need to hit level 2 or 3 in Vanguard and have something along the lines of 150 points to even buy the wears… I wonder what everyone else had to do to get it, or did my code not go through? I got the ship, and everything else so far that I knew I was suppose to get… I looked at my Microsoft account on my Xbox one and it showed the code redeemed… so I though Ok… no worries, I’ll just slog along and get the points and ranks required. So far I’ve found that easier said than done with the limited time I can give the game. So I probably won’t see another purple gear in my hand through the vanguard for at least another month. So I beat the game, I played solo because I wanted to say I beat the game myself, and with no help. It was worth it. I got at the end the stranger's gun, at level 17. The gun was a level 16 weapon, other weapons have come and gone through my hands, I still hold a green auto rifle at level 24 because blue auto rifles seem to not exist... So I hit level 20 a little while later, I expected to see my skin, from the COD pre-order… no such luck, unless the royal purple was it? On the box it looked black and gold just like the ship, so was I missing something? I don’t know, I wait and hope a patch will fix these things, but the game seems to be semi-balanced… just not so much that the drops are worthy of the player. I have been playing games where I am playing level 24 while I am a 22/23 player, so I expected to see better drops. I see plenty of greens, a few blues, and a handful of purples… You know how much gear I have that is purple or legendary? None… I would of thought after 4 purple drops you’d at least see one purple item. I wouldn’t care if it didn’t fit my character or not, but just to see one in my possession by now would be great. I know legendary drops are rare for obvious reasons… but I don’t understand why purple drops are. When you hit level 23 and higher you need better gear to survive, sure your stranger’s weapon can hold on for a bit. Once you get a blue pulse rifle the only reason to hold onto The Stranger’s gun is so you can have “auto fire”… which I found out means that you don’t need to keep pulling the trigger, seriously? I digress… The game is good, don’t get me wrong I will be playing it for a long time to come, but I seem to not be getting full advantage of the game… or at least the part I paid for. Is this just me, or has someone else seen this same problem? I will be sending a copy of this to Bungie, but I wanted an open post here to see if people have seen the same issues I have. Does anyone?

The shader should be on your cod receipt. If not, contact your retailer and ask for a new one. Vanguard gear is for early access. I think it normally opens up at lvl 10 and early access let's you get gear at lvl 5. Of course it's just uncommons, but at lvl 5, the guns aren't bad. I got a sniper...but let's be honest. I haven't bought any gear since because my drops have been pretty good. I'm now stuck at lvl 24 having to grind rep so I can get some legendary armor from the vanguard. I HATE buying gear. I love opening a chest and finding something awesome. I've farmed a few purple engrams, but out of the ones I've found for armor, they either turned into blues or were for a different class. So. The last couple of days I've just been slogging away on patrols, completing all the easy bounties and the one or two public events I've seen. Ok, now a few gripes: legendary and exotic gear: there ought to be TONS of different sets for each class. You are supposed to be able to customize your toon extensively after lvl 20. So far, not so much. It even seems like there are very limited shaders available. Why? Communication: the problems with the in-game communication is well known...I'm not going to beat a dead horse. But my biggest gripe is if 2 friends and I are in a fire team, and they aren't on each other's friends list, they can't talk. I would expect something like this from Nintendo, not Bungie/ Activision. I'm 37 years old. I game with other adults. The only teen I ever game with is my 17 y.o. nephew. There shouldn't be this big fence up that I have to climb in order to play with a group. Invisible walls/ out of bounds: on some maps, particularly Mars and to a lesser extent the moon, I have no idea what's in and what's out of bounds. I'm not saying I need my hand held or anything, but a mini map that shows my current location would go a long way for me to be able to see what's in and what's out. Which brings me to my next point: Lack of a mini map: 700 years in the future, and no map available in game? Hell, it's just 2014, and nearly all of us carry around some form of GPS. An in-game map ought to pull up when we activate our ghost, not just way points. That, or be a feature of our helmets. We get a permanent crosshair, why no map? Boss battles: another dead horse...there was an EXCELLENT post the other day about how to do boss battle correctly. There needs to be stages...not just mobs. After knocking down a third of a boss's health, his attack should change. Your strategy should change. The closest we get to this is Sepkis Prime, and all he does is teleport a few times, EXACTLY what his smaller brethren do...which brings me to... Bosses, in general: bosses shouldn't be bigger, stronger versions of regular mobs. Could you imagine if Ganon was just a giant Moblin, with exactly the same attack? A few low lvl bosses like this would be fine, but every single one? Unacceptable. Patrols: missions are thus: kill x number of baddies or go to this place and scan (either hold x to scan, or just stand there). Am I missing any? Someone suggested having a timed mission to to rush sensitive intelligence somewhere to be uploaded to the good guys...I like this idea. There is a lot of fun in this game to be had...but there are SO MANY things that aren't done right as to be a bit of a let down. Come on Bungie! I haven't lost faith, yet, but you really need to step it up...
