What if they didn't develop for last-gen

If they didn't have to limit the engine to the confines of 8 year-old consoles, how much bigger/spectacular do you think Destiny could have been. I'm not talking graphics-wise necessarily, as a primarily PC gamer I think it looks amazing on the PS4, but I feel there were definitely places they couldn't achieve due to basically being limited to last-gen console specs.

  • Wouldn't be much different IMO, Destiny achieved a lot especially since they made the game available for last gen. Most people aren't realizing that there's multiple open world environments they gave us and more planets or areas are coming via DLC. Are you a CoD player by any chance cause I am and if you are you know Activision loves giving a little to get you hooked then they roll out the DLC. Not picking on just Activision because a lot of publishers do this now a days, but don't forget Bungie makes the game and Activision calls the shots...

    • Though, I believe you're correct. And that a strict development with the New Gen systems in mind, would give Bungie more freedom in with thing they could add to the game itself, such as larger maps and population, more game features, and many-many other options (Space Combat with your ships, anyone? Heh!). However, on a marketing stand point, they would also loose about 25% (if not more) of their current player base. Which is a HUGE number when you look at sales and income. They placed a big dollar amount in the development of this game, so they need to see that come back in Returns, otherwise this 10 Years series is going be keeping them in the Red for a very long time before they could even hope to see a profit. Now, this isn't to say that future releases of the series won't be strictly New Gen (and possibly PC), as the offer to upgrade to the New Gen for free seems to be an incentive to make this happen over the Holiday season. Only time will tell.

      • While you have a valid point, I'd be SOL if they didn't. I'm not about to drop $500 on a new console (yet), so I'm extremely grateful that they support last-gen.
