I remembered why I started playing video games, it was a way to escape into a fantasy world for hours on end that provided entertainment and just fun. These days, it seems like everyone has forgotten what the simple purpose of video games are; Destiny being no exception. It seems whether it's PVP or even PVE; players have gotten so serious about playing. Now don't get me wrong, when engaging an enemy, of course everyone wants to win, but even if you lose, it should have been fun just to try, especially when facing off an enemy with allies at your side. Sigh...maybe I am just sentimental and I probably will get heat for this post, but....I really want to know....do any of you players...just play to have fun...win or lose...just the adventure itself makes you happy?
Hi everyone, first off I would just like to thank all of you for commenting on the post. Even if you have different opinions, it's absolutely fine because you are more than entitled to it. I was just happy to read that so many of you still believe in the basic fundamentals of fun, and even though some of you have carved out your own definitions of the word and what it means to you, I sincerely hope that you truly enjoy your gaming experiences, whether its with Destiny or any other game you might play. Thank you for reading, and SHINE ON ;)

Yeh I like to play for fun, win or loose it's just a game at the end of the day
-
I am 46 ,played VG my whole life. I play only for fun. Competition, I already won in real life, so what does it matter if I "beat" anyone online?? :)
-
Actually the chance to play solo in a multiplayer environment is the draw to Destiny for me. I don't have to engage in competitive or cooperative play unless I choose to, and while the experience is pretty epic in a group, the solo experience can be relaxing and less dynamic and less chaotic. But there are good reasons in Destiny to visit the competitive play space. There is a bit of everything for anyone in Destiny. Unless you are Kevin VanOrd he thinks Destiny is "Shallow Earth"
-
Most people incorrectly use "Fun" as going über try hard mcgoogoo.
-
I disagree men. It's fun when you own noobs and scrubs. Get good scrub then come back. 1v1 me bro. jk
-
I've been asking myself the same thing lately, do people only care about winning and earning the coolest gear? Of course that's part of the experience but I fully agree with you, there's a fine line between competitiveness and irrational, pointless aggression toward other players online who just play to enjoy the game.

-
I agree, I play to have a good time, the best part of a raid to me is the dancing over the defeated boss with my equally elated allies :)
-
Teabagging dead bodies of guardians of twelve year old players after I punched them in the face with my Titan and enjoying their tears is not fun?
-
If you are looking to play for fun, join my clan "Team Dies A Lot". We don't take gaming too seriously. After all, most of us game after a hard day's work to relax.
-
While my overall purpose is to play for fun, I do still wince a bit when I die in Strikes, even if it's something admittedly easy to die from like a swarm of Stealth Vandals or not anticipating that a Hydra would look at me and not my teammates, because I always worry that I now look like an incompetent buffoon that has my teammates slack-jawed and wondering " Really?! Idiot >_>". I never have any of those rage-out sessions the "Pro" players do when they flop a bit or see someone else fall short, but still not perfect.
-
I think I still play games for fun ( wouldn't bother being competitive, I'm a loser in pvp) but I roleplay HEAVILY, example: watchdogs :)
-
No. If you dont play to win you SUCK!!!
-
Exactly! People treat it like a sport. Can't they enjoy the game and not say ks every time u get a kill? (League of legends reference)
-
There's no fun in repetitivness,just "This,again?"
-
I don't care I prefer too win and sometimes get a little frustrated but I don't cus on the mic or yell and scream im pretty normal
-
I'm guessing I'm one of the few that doesn't care that there isn't much depth to the story, I'm enjoying just doing PvE only just hit 20, Happy to grind in the low level areas the being totally overpowered for the enemies that spawn is a kick, randomly helping out the lower levels that you run into even if you can't talk... If I need a challenge I continue with the story or jump into PvP where I get massacred and hardly ever make it off the bottom of the ladder and I still find it fun ( still get crappy reward loot too) and I'm Australian so I paid more for this game than most of you did and I'm no bungie fanboy (never got into halo) so I play for fun and I think destiny is fun. But I get the issues people have with the game and how PvP could frustrate the hell out of people specially the competitive types.
-
People play games so they can judge them because apparently they all have degrees in game design.

Edited by MR E0S: 9/16/2014 11:41:50 PMNo MM for Raids.... Raids are serious business. No fun to be had there. In fact Destiny as a whole screams this scenario. And it's -blam!-ing retarded BUNGIE!
-
Im a level 21 hunter and I've been playing the game for fun, I have so far only played about 1h and 30min a day just to not ruin the game by not rushing through it. I haven't even completed the campaign and I'm in mars.
-
One of the best aspects of Destiny is that it has both PvE and PvP, which allows for people to play the game the way they want to play it. I think everyone still plays games to have fun, it's just that some people find intense competition fun.
-
only kids play for fun

Edited by Snoo: 9/16/2014 9:15:12 PMThere is nothing sentimental about it. Games are supposed to be fun in the first place. Having that said there is nothing wrong with being competitive (or at least try to) or even being fanatic as long as you understand your own limitations AND still can have fun. Only few are good (and lucky) enough to reach the pros however the later generations seem to grow up with the idea they all deserve it especially when it comes to video gaming... Now that is sentimental :)
