So what is the reason behind the 25000 glimmer cap?

It should be 100k honestly. 25k is too easily gotten

There was only one occasion when I used a lot of glimmer, when an exotic weapon bounty required me to dismantle 10 rare fusion rifles. Waited for the gunsmith to have one in stock and bought it enough times to complete it. Since it has few uses, and only small amounts are used in upgrading weapons and armor the cap seems fair.

There is a money cap in all mmos/rpgs. Its not like glimmer is useful...literally spend it all on cryptarch rank.
-
The same reason as everything. To balance.
-
Probably to encourage spending as opposed to saving and buying everything that comes with an expansion as soon as it comes out.

Doesn't make much sense to me either. Maybe 100k, but 25k? What exactly do I have with 25k over someone that has 5k?

I don't see any balance in a glimmer cap, there is plenty to sink this into, nobody gets a huge benefit of having more glimmer than someone else.
