I was tempted to write a long post with analogies to Final Fantasy XI and horrid boss fight fiascos, but... meh that's too much work.
Short version: These boss fights are horrible. They're completely unimaginative, and they almost all rely on one mechanic for "epicness:" insanely high HP.
We basically have two types of boss fights in strikes right now. The common one is: You have a boss with too many HP who blinks/walks around the map and does massive amounts of damage. You hit him in his head/eyeball/pouch. Every now and then you have to deal with a stream of cannon fodder npcs whose main purpose is to replenish your ammo reserves. These fights can take anywhere between 10-50 minutes depending on your group. The strategy is pretty much the same for every single one of them: Don't get so bored that you do something utterly stupid and have to restart the encounter. The bosses have no real weak point or attack pattern or well any mechanic to make them more interesting than a normal fight other than "I have too much HP."
The other type of boss fight in a strike is the one in the Devil's Lair with the spider thingy. Most of the above applies. But, and here is the important part, he has a real weakness for you to exploit. You shoot the legs, they blow up, you shoot the core. If you do your job properly, you can significantly cut the "challenge," tedium, and length of the fight. There is an actual boss fight mechanic at play here. He might still have too much HP, but you at least have to do more than just shoot his head/eyeball/pouch. His attacks follow a pattern, and you can get better at it.
Almost every "boss" fight in this game so far can be vastly improved by lowering the bosses hp. The challenge of the game shouldn't be too stay awake during a fight so that you don't screw up. We need actual gameplay mechanics to these fights. We may want to try and claim Destiny is something completely new, but the MMO influences are plain as day. There is no reason to be emulating cutting edge MMO fights from 15 years ago where the only thing that made a boss a boss is more HP.
