Lol perhaps, but that doesn't change that it's bad character writing.
So you understand that then? That this entire time Bungie has (mostly) terrible character plot and you still expect them to do a good job at it? If anything you're letting yourself down. You know what's going to happen, you let your hopes get way too high and then it crumbles up as if you didnt know it would be this way the entire time. *Using desticle logic intensifies*
Durandle was pretty good back in Marathon.
Oh yeah? So was the Arbiter back in Halo 3, or the Buck in ODST, or Jorge in Halo Reach. Yet all of the stories have Bungie written all over. If you put it like this every Halo mediocre, emotionless, garbage. Which makes Reach no different from the rest of the series that Bungie made.
I did not say that.
It certainly looked that way. You said that the story was bad because nothing important happened until the ending. Not surprisingly enough you said the exact same thing about Mass Effect 2's story and claimed it was bad yet couldn't name a a flaw besides the fact it had no real purpose. A game can have nothing to do with the story and still be good you know. I see why you wouldn't like Reach but saying that its bad because it wasn't important is wrong.
I did not say that. I said that there simply was no story until the last 2 levels, it was just a string of mildly related military objectives, no larger overarching objective, no bigger goal.

it was just a string of mildly related military objectives, no larger overarching objective, no bigger goal.
You just named a majority of the story in that sentence alone. It may not be important but its still there. Reach revolves around Noble team not the fall of Reach itself. This is most likely why you don't like the games story in general. I can understand that but the story is there.
I love side quests, because they tell a self contained story, like an added bonus with a nice reward at the end.
But they have nothing to do with the story. All they do (most of the time) is affect your character. Like you said they tell their own story which is exactly what Reach does. Like it or not.
But if you're comparing Reach's entire primary story to a side quest, you're doing something wrong.
I know that know but at the time it couldn't find correct wording for it. Reach told the story of Noble team, not Reach in its entirety. On a different note, the story goes into Noble team and their problems because they didnt know Reach was being invaded. It wasn't till days later that an invading force was found and that wasn't even the entirety of it. This is why seemingly nothing you do matters until the last few missions. For whatever reason Bungie mixed things up. Whether it was a "-blam!- you" to MS or that they wanted to tell the story their own way doesn't really change that.
