Lockout Questions

So no doubt you read the update. But within it said;
Obtaining loot from a given encounter means that character is not eligible to receive loot from the same encounter again in a given calendar week. This is often referred to as a "Lockout."  I italicized “character” above, because if you have multiple Raid-ready characters, you can run the Raid again on a different character - and the Lockout isn't applied to it.  Each encounter has a fixed inventory of items it can award to players, e.g., certain pieces of gear or weapons can only drop from certain encounters.  Lockouts are cleared at the Weekly Reset.
What exactly is meant by an encounter? Does this mean that only raids will have a system in place to keep you from grinding them? Or does this extend to sorry missions and strikes? Does this mean grinding strikes won't get you the gear you're after in them? What happens if you beat a full raid and get nothing remarkable? Will I have to wait a week to try again, simply to walk out potentially empty handed once more? If this extends to strikes, I'm concerned... Once I'm max level, what would be the point of grinding if I can only get a single item per character per week? Edit: This was meant as food for thought. I hope someone reading this understands. Thank you to all that have made this post a joke. On a sincere note, Nightfall missions quell my worries.

  • That's a lot of questions... These are my guess's Ah from what I understand you can get rewarded one week for EACH character on raids... Im sure you won't beat it and get nothing but may not be what you want... You can do raids more than once just won't get rewards after beating it. Strikes won't haves lock out but gear won't be as good...

  • encounter is a catch all term for bosses and similar finalising...well encounters, since the main focus of the interview is raids we can assume it raids only.

    • It applies to raids only. You get one drop per week PER CHARACTER you have that is raid ready. So you have a chance to get 3 drops a week.

        I see you casting doubt over some peoples' responses. Not once has Bungie said they would do lockouts on strikes, but have mentioned several times they would lockout raids. It would be common sense to infer that strikes do not get loot lockouts. Furthermore, I believe the more decent loot drops, outside of raids, will be in the form of Nightfalls, which come in both daily and weekly versions. Those are limited, given the daily resets and the weekly resets. Strikes will be the bottom of the barrel loot opportunities that people can grind while waiting for raid and nightfall resets. I've been watching every single interview I find and not once have they said anything about not locking strikes, because it's the shared opinion that it's something that doesn't need to be said. If they did say it somewhere, I over looked it cause it's something I've expected all along.
