There was a recent post about same sex relationships. Or rather being able to play a "gay" character. Which kind of annoyed me. Not because I'm anti gay, but because I'm "anti idiot"
In a game where for one, relationships aren't even a part of, two sexuality isn't a part of, three there is no love story, providing the option to be gay is right up there with choosing to be Catholic or Muslim, French or Brazilian, it's not just pointless, it's stupid AND it takes away from the game.
How? Let me tell you.
If they give into the hetrophobic people and add gay characters they'd have to create a reason. Which would take resources away from other far more important and enjoyable thing that unlike the 1% of people who want gay characters, 100% of people would enjoy.
Such as and not limited to:
More planets
More story missions
More raids

I could make a list 3 or 4 times this size. All things far more important to add to the game than relationships OR "gay" characters. The problem is the "heterophobic" people out there who hate straight people so much they actually hate the idea of playing any character that isn't clearly marked as being gay will whine and cry until they get their way. Sadly enough I'm sure there were people who complained about no gay characters in Angry Birds or no gay drivers in Forza or Gran Tourismo.
I'm not homophobic. I am realityphobic! I do NOT play games to deal with reality. I don't want to see gay characters in a futuristic fantasy game that doesn't involve relationships just like I don't want to see references about "obamacare" or Russia invading Ukraine or the Palestinians attacking innocent Israeli civilians, or 9/11 or the government taking 60% of my earnings etc.... Games are an escape from reality, not an intentional emulation. Personally if you want to be gay, go to the gay bar, keep it out of games. I don't need relationships in games! Has any game gotten it right anyway? I have yet to see a game where you argue over pointless crap, where the ai picks an argument then storms off or kicks you out, or one where you get married, then she cheats on you, takes your house so she can screw the guy, with your children in the next room, takes half your cash, and then after the divorce you're stuck paying 90% of your income in alimony, so you can't even afford to live in an efficiency apartment! Or wouldn't it be nice to play a racing game where random parts can break on your car? Forza REAL! Where you're driving, hit a pothole and break an axle, or your car overheats and you blow the radiator or your transmission just goes on you.
Yeah... Let's inject more life into video games! Sound fun? No? Then instead of "gay" characters how about we spend more time on the content we ALL want.

Edited by Negan Lyons: 8/1/2014 1:11:26 PMBecause "muh equality". I don't see any fetishes being represented, do we need to add those too? No. Because it's a -blam!-ing video game made by bungie and they didn't include it. Want a video game about being gay? Make one. Or, play call of duty.
-
Topics like that are bait. The intention is to get people to talk smack about gays. You are proof that it works.
-
The reason that sexuality isn't even bothered with, is because if you paid attention to the opening cinematic where you get resurrected by the ghost, you're technically not alive. Once dead and brought back to life, you are undead. Call yourselves zombies or whatever you want. Vampires, I don't give -blam!-. In this game, we're all playing a dead character, so -blam!- sexuality.
-
If your a "gaymer", here's how you make a gay character: 1) Make a character. 2) Interact with said character as you do in your own life. 3) Boom. Done. I don't honestly see how having an outwardly gay character in a game like this serves any significance. I mean, do you want "gay" mannerisms? Female animations for male characters (or vice versa)? What exactly would you classify as being an acceptable depiction of a gay character, because I can tell you right now if there WAS one, majority of the gay playerbase would probably take some offense to him/her because "I'm gay and I don't act like that". I'm also pretty sure that in real life you don't parade around your homosexuality like "look at me I'm gay!" as if it's a badge of honor or a giant neon billboard (or at least all gay people don't do that. Most that I know live normal lives except that they're attracted to the same sex), so why...I say WHY...do you demand for such trivial things in a video game? I for one don't care if you're guy or girl, gay or straight, black or white. You're a gamer. For the love of all things great and small, can we leave it at that?

Edited by Batz: 8/1/2014 1:09:40 PMSwtor had a thread on this topic with thousands of replies....and that's in a game that needed a lot of work elswhere and where the only time you had some form of relationship was during a few cutscenes during story. So yeah, while I'm not against the idea I find it idiotic to ask for something, in context, so trivial. For all I care they could take out all forms of relationships. Then again, the RP'ers are always asking for a bunch of stupid crap despite that even they must have realized that there are a billion more pressing issues.

Edited by HEAVYSET: 7/31/2014 3:11:50 AMI think it's a little heavy handed... But I agree with you. Our world has been too focused on sexuality. I have gay friends and my best friend that I grew up with is gay, but why do I get mass emails to join and celebrate LGBT awareness at my job? Why do we have to stand and give applause to a person because they like to do the nasty with a person of the same sex?! It's the dumbest thing ever. I don't stand up and say NOTICE ME because I like to have sex with my wife... I would get fired if I sent out "celebrate straight couples" fund raiser emails. Why do our games and other casual hobbies have to include our sexual preference? It's just silly. Sexual matters are private. I don't need a pat on the back because I sleep with a woman. You don't need a video game that pats you on the back or includes recognition of your sexual desires. It's rate T FOR TEEN. This games doesn't need sexual content. Doesn't it seem silly to add a sexual preference selection to a game without sexual content? Why do You need to label your sexual preference? Why do we need to know who you like to have sex with? We don't.
-
They allowed for this very same thing in skyrim through marriage and the amulet of mara. It didnt affect the game at all to have gay characters.
-
Since Destiny is at least 80% male I think most of the relationships we will have in game will be same gender. Also, do Exos eve have junk? Do they procreate sexually? Do any Guardians procreate, or are we undead? Mysteriouser and mysteriouser.

Edited by MaverickM18: 7/31/2014 2:42:12 PMShort version....stop asking for gay characters. The characters are not defined as straight or gay because its probably irrelevant to the game. I think the guardians have more important things to worry about. Saving a few planets, dancing in the Tower, and realizing this shiny floating, talking prism thing just raised me from the dead.
-
I don't get it... If you want a gay character make a character and tell everyone your guardians gay...what's the big deal >.>

Hail hydra!!!!

Hey if I can get gimp armor with assless chaps id be happy.

Edited by RH Stealth: 7/31/2014 10:10:40 PMWtf is this? Lol no character has any set sexuality. You just imagine whatever the hell sexuality you want your character to be. There is no reason for "gay" characters because there are no "straight" ones. There are no relationships. Sexuality is completely irrelevant. This is stupid.

Edited by xXNetCodeXx: 7/31/2014 7:02:58 AMOP I will say you are ranting a bit. I wasn't going to say anything until I read a comment of something to the sense of "Gays cant be bigots" or something along those lines. To that all I can say is BULLSHIT! Some of the individuals who I work with are openly homosexual. And they are some of the worst bigots I know. Me and my wifes anniversary is on May 9th we have been together for 8 years now but only married 3 years ago. So that Friday I am at work doing my job lunch rolls around and my wife shows up with a nice meal candles and a bottle of sparkling cider(we dont drink alcohol) so we could have a semi romantic meal on our anniversary as I wouldn't be home for 2 more days. Needless to say my homosexual coworkers got in my wife's and my face about it because we were "Openly disagreeing and hating on gay rights". Their exact words among many others. Needless to say I stood my ground and told him what I thought of HIM not of homosexual individuals. I told him I wasn't comfortable with him exsposing himself at the company Halloween party in assless chaps. I wasn't comfortable with him grabbing my ass or staring at me the way he did, and many other things that made me uncomfortable. Because it was HIM that was making me uncomfortable with what he does not his sexuality. My best friend is Lesbian and I was her best man at her wedding. I walked my cousin down the isle for his wedding. I would say as a straight man I am very accepting of LGBTs. Hell even my wife is bisexual. However I believe that ones sexuality shouldn't be flaunted in peoples faces or that LGBTs should get any kind of special treatment for their sexuality which so many demand or accuse others of not accepting because they believe what happens in the bedroom should stay in the -blam!-ing bedroom. So I will repeat LGBT individuals can and are bigots (hateful because of race religion or sexual orientation), but not all are but they do exsist.
-
I don't give a shit and I suggest you do the same. Makes life easier.
-
Since when did sexuality play a role in Destiny? People can be whatever they want to be. I don't even know anymore.
-
I stopped reading at hetrophobic
-
Hey i just realized something, if there are no options in destiny for gay or straight maybe that's because in the future we wont bother with petty labels :)
-
I'm pretty sure guardians are Asexual.
-
Ok we get it there isn't any kind of guardian relationship mechanic in the game and you're not a homophobe. There's still no way I'm reading all that.

Choose your race: Exo Human Awoken Choose your sexual preference: Chuck Norris Neil Patrick Harris Play Destiny

Very mature, well written posts on this thread, great job guys!

Well said but.... a phobia isn't a hate. It's an uncontrollable fear.
-
I thought they did make characters for homosexuals? Hunter, and warlock classes. :P

Edited by Kwick-Kick-Lee: 7/31/2014 5:31:51 AMHow the hell would you be able to tell a characters sexual preference by looking? I agree it is stupid. It makes sense in games where there are either sex or relationships like mass effect or some mmo's.
-
How can I be a gay robot? Machines don't have sexuality. This makes me mad bungie fix this debacle now! Lol
