This was used in a different context to a question, but holds validity here. So I will post what I stated before, and add my two cents among this. Our very nature at first glance is insignificant. We live on a piece of matter that's collected together to form a big rocky ball, trapped in orbit around an incomprehensibly enormous ball of energy in it's purest form, which in itself is trapped in a galactic cluster with untold billions of other systems. And among that, is the universe itself which stretches without end to eternity. And yet, here we are. The person you call you only exists today because of the specific events that happened beforehand. That means the moment you were conceived by your parents, the exact moment your parents fell in love, and every little thing in their lives that led up to that point. And that counts for their parents beforehand, and the ones before them, all the way down to the very moment our planet was formed. Displace any one of these events, no matter how small, and the person you are, right now, sitting here, would not be you. You might not even exist. So what that means is, every single action you take now has consequences that stretch so far down the road that it rivals the universe itself in scale. Every one of our actions echoes for infinity, and goes on through time and space for eternity. Therefore, what that really means is, every person's time and life is precious. Every action or inaction you take stays with you and holds the key to future events for eternity. At first glance, just ordinary you seems small and unimportant compared to the universe in scale. But you are infinitely bigger than you know or could ever comprehend because of your actions and what they hold for the future, which is why it's important that you make your time here count. One day all life on this planet could be wiped out in an instant. Or it might not. Imagine if the one person who held the key to an idea that would inspire another to create something that would save us didn't exist? What if that one singular person's parents never got together? What if events in his life didn't play out as they did to shape him into the person he was today? What if the people he took inspiration from were never born, or weren't there? Our actions shape everything around us, and not only the future for you, or your family, but untold billions of lives that haven't been born yet. They hold so much weight that one day we might actually be forced to leave our planet if we get that far. Or we might go extinct by then. But even then, that extinction could be completely changed or altered by a few simple events moved out of place. Can you feel the weight of things on your shoulders now? Every action has a reaction that spirals outward forever, affecting countless numbers of people, both alive, and those yet to come. Every one of these particular events were fate, at their present time. However, if you look back at them, because they happened, and cannot be changed, it makes them destiny as well. In the present tense, everything is fate and chance. In the past tense, it's destiny because it's already happened and cannot exist in any other form.

This delves deep into philosophy. I've seen good arguments for both perspectives. I'd like to believe we guide our own lives and our destiny is shaped by us. On the other hand, I wouldn't mind fate bringing me various opportunities that could better my life through what we may deem a coincidence.
