Trading Card Code Speculation!

So for these [currently] 17 codes floating about, nobody knows what we will receive for entering them. For those that don't know what I'm talking about, click here. I think a common thought is that we'll see something like extra glimmer or a weapon. And it's possible. But I had another thought. I'm not saying it's any more likely than any other possibility, but it's just one that I haven't seen anybody think of before. Borderlands 2. Borderlands 2 has something called 'Bassass Points.' These points let you level up your PROFILE, rather than your individual character, with permanent upgrades that affect all current and future characters. They involve small firerate bonuses, reload speed, etc. But very miniscule amounts- like .3% increases at a time. What if these codes involve something like this? Now, I'm talking more about the profile upgrade rather than things like reload speed. But what if, say, the names of the trading cards were relevant? The Hive card gives you a 5% damage boost against the Hive. Maybe the Duke MK.44 code actually is what makes it POSSIBLE for that weapon to drop from a boss! The Tower? 5% discount on items. Old Russia? Maybe an increased drop rate there. Basically, my idea is that these codes might have some sort of relevance to the name of their card, and it could be profile-based rather than character based. It's just a thought I haven't seen people talk about. Not that it's more probable than any other theory- it's pure speculation and no fact behind it. But yeah- discuss your thoughts!

  • Maybe it gives you bonus information in Destinys equivalent of the in game encyclopedia. Like enemy weak points or weapon locations.

  • I'm betting that they'll be Grimoire cards, maybe special ones that give extra Glimmer or XP or something. If they unlock a new weapon or armor then Bungie should make them redeemable after the release of the game too (like glyph codes).

    • Anyone find the ones that were supposedly hidden at E3? Lets get searching.

      • Nice hypothesis. I'll be looking forward to what Bungie has to say about these "Mystery Cards" as I like to call them. Maybe they'll reveal it on Bungie day? That's always a possibility, but its also just a guess. We'll just have to sit back, relax, and wait.

        • It might also be Grimoire (Not sure if I spelled that correct) Cards in game, that give you tiny bits of background stories of the different races, weapons and places. And it could be Materials or extra currency. Or all at once. Looking forward to finally find out what they are. Bungie know how to tease the community. :P

It does remind me of Borderlands 2 as well. Borderlands 2 had Shift codes which would grant golden keys to use on characters to get weapons, also certain shift codes unlocked weapons and customization option for the vault hunters. Bungie may be doing something similar as well. These trading cards could be used to unlock ingame items for customization or could be used to unlock gamerpics on the site or they could be used like Steam trading cards. Hard to tell, though I hope that they look kinda cool.

          • Isn't there something like Vanguard reputation in the game? Unless the Vanguards are considered a faction, I thought the cards might boost that--as a sort of notoriety counter. Although, to be perfectly honest, I like your idea better. That would be much more interesting. And those codes--can everyone can redeem those? I tried entering the Hunter one for kicks and it seemed to work.

            • burrito, please. We all know these trading cards are being used for the new, in-game Yu-Gi-Oh battle simulator.

              • All in the realm of possibility, I would hate to just get some armor right from the get go that I'll replace right away. Going back to Borderlands 2, what if they will be 25 equivalents to golden keys? Some chest somewhere that needs one of those keys to open it, but you only get 25, to use as you see fit.

              • I didn't know there were that many. Did some new ones come out at e3?
