Okay... so I have been wondering this for a while. What gives certain threads longevity? Why are some threads SO much more popular than others?
Is it the thread-starters? Do people see someone with loads of posts and look more favourably on a thread that they've started? Is it the responsibility of the starter to maintain the thread?
Or is it the topic? A more general thread gives more scope, but a specific one could allow more depth...
Why do some threads lie dormant for months before resurfacing? And why are others consigned to the scrapheap the moment they are... threaded?
I'd like to hear your views...
How long will this thread last???...

It is a mysterious unpredictable bunch involving everything you said and a lot of randomness

From what I have seen, the more popular threads are the ones that resonates with the community in one way or another. Asking an intriguing question is usually how I try to start a thread. Also responding to what people post helps. But don't take my advise, my thread usually are not very popular.

My guess is that if you want a thread to last have it pertain to something that is current with news and or information that is out there, and also make it to where everyone can discuss about with their own Points of view. or you can do what others do and make a "How many years have you been here" Thread for the umpteenth time.

It used to be the Golden Septagon. Now I don't know.
