Destiny Awaits (Short Story)

((Just a short-ish story I came up with a while back and finally got around to sharing here. Sorry if this isn't the right forum to put it, but I couldn't really figure which was the best place. Anyway, enjoy.))
Prologue “Dad, come on,” Cenric Sauveterre begged the older man, Isin Sauveterre. “I've been practicing! I'm almost as good a shot as you!” “No. You're not ready for the Wild yet.” His father replied, holding his sniper rifle, Lucky as Hell, in one arm while he slid a fresh magazine into it with a click. “Besides,” Isin continued, slinging the weapon onto his back and glancing over at his son, “Someone's got to take care of Nyira while I'm gone.” He was referring to the rather sickly and injured Awoken child he had found during his adventures near the Gulf. She had been getting better, but was nowhere near strong enough to be left alone for even half a week. “Fine, but after she gets better, I'm coming along.” Cenric muttered, clenched teeth highlighted by his dark skin. “Deal?” “Deal.” Isin said, picking up Magnificent Bastard, an ordinary looking revolver hand cannon, and tossing it to Cain. “You're about old enough to own that now. Keep it clean and magnificent as ever.” Cenric smirked and nodded at his father. The revolver was a lot more powerful than its appearance suggested, with nine massive rounds in the cylinder that rivaled a sniper in stopping power. He'd been looking forward to using it more, and was pleased he'd finally be able to keep it as his own. It had originally been Isin's, but he'd stopped using it years ago for some reason. The middle-aged Guardian's eyes crinkled as he smiled at his son. He opened the door of their living complex and stepped outside, cloak flapping behind him in the strong breeze. ***** Cenric was once more practicing the quick-draw of his revolver. He'd made sure it was emptied and the safety was on, but he was facing a wall with a counter running parallel to his position, preventing someone from walking in front of him. Coincidentally, that gave him a wide view of the door as it opened, admitting Isin for the first time in three weeks. The Hunter's clothes and armor was scarred and torn, and he had dark red caked on his lower torso. Cenric dropped Magnificent Bastard on the counter and ran over to his father, his eyes wide. He helped Isin limp over to take a seat. “Why didn't you visit a medic?” Cenric asked in a stern tone. “No time.” Isin answered, tossing his half-broken helmet to the floor. “I need to get Connor and Gage immediately; I found something. I'm not sure what exactly it is, but it has to do with the Vex, and I think Venus.” “The Vex...” Cenric blinked rapidly for a moment. “They did this to you?” “No no, I got careless. Fallen Captain surprised me and stabbed me with his sword.” “Seriously dad, you need a medic.” “After you bring me a chatter.” Isin said, pulling out a small piece of equipment that looked like it was broken in half. “Mine's broken, so I couldn't reach them earlier.” Cenric rose to his feet and moved down the hallway, past Nyira's room and into his own. He grabbed his own personal communicator and ran back to his father. Isin nodded his thanks as he took the chatter and keyed in Gage's and Connor's GID's. He didn't say much, only that he needed to talk to them in person immediately. “So, you going to tell me what you found?” “No.” Isin replied bluntly. “We know comparatively little about what the Vex are capable of, but I know enough. If they learned you had this information, they might not stop hunting you. Even the Wall and the Traveler might not be enough to keep them out if they are determined enough.” Isin wiped some blood off his lips and rose to his feet. He limped over to his room's door and walked in, then opened a secure locker in there and took out a new helmet. The visor was silver and reminiscent of goggles, and the right side had three horizontal strips with one red light on each going down the right side that acted like a focus for his sniper rifle's scope and the zoom function of his HUD. “Stay safe.” Cenric's father told him, briefly hugging the teenager before striding back out the door.
