Using a pulsed laser beam, the instrument sent data 239,000 miles (384,633 kilometers) home to Earth at the relatively speedy download rate of 622 megabits per second. The test also showed an "error-free upload rate" of 20 megabits per second from the primary ground station in New Mexico, NASA officials said.
Now, I'm sure this is expensive as hell to do, but come on, NASA can transmit data at speeds of up to 622 mbps WIRELESSLY, and countries around the world don't have Gigabit Internet. Australia, good luck with convincing your new President of getting more than 25 mbps.
NASA = Innovative and needs more money
ISPs around the world (ex. Gigabit providers) = I liiiiiike coperrrrrrr
