Interview Help Please

Hello, my name is Tyler Eaton and i am 16 years old. I am currently very interested in becoming a video game programmer and i was wonder if someone could answer a few questions for me. Thank you very much for your time. can you please reply back soon. Interviewee’s name? Who do you work for and what is your position? About how big is your company? How many of you (your position) are there? How long have you been there? What projects have you worked on? Where did you go to school (college)? What technology/programs/languages do you use? At your company, where do the ideas for projects come from? What is a day in your life once you get to work? What time do you get there? Do you have your own office/cubicle, etc? What do you tend to work on throughout the day? How late do you stay/what time do you go home? Are there any upcoming projects you can tell us about? If you are allowed to talk about it, what is your salary? (starting & current) Do you get bonuses? Is there a school you recommend going to? Are you happy with your current job? Why/why not? What is your dream job? If you could do it all over, would you choose this career path again? Any words of advice for anyone entering the field?

I like your interview. If I do well do I get a job at your company? :) FYI: My views are my own and in no way officially represent my company. For external use only. Keep away from open flames and so on. Interviewee’s name? SaintD Who do you work for and what is your position? [Classified] as Senior SDET About how big is your company? In the hundreds How many of you (your position) are there? I'm not sure. A dozen or more. How long have you been there? I'm pretty new. I worked at a large consumer software company for 10 years before this. What projects have you worked on? MSN Mobile, Live Meeting, SharePoint among others. Where did you go to school (college)? Some state school many moons ago. (didn't finish) What technology/programs/languages do you use? C#, C++, Java, JavaScript, Perl, IIS, SQL, among others At your company, where do the ideas for projects come from? Everywhere, nowhere. What is a day in your life once you get to work? Read email, after that it varies a lot. I might plan testing, write and run automation, consult with teammates, go to a meeting or two. What time do you get there? 09:30 Do you have your own office/cubicle, etc? I used to at my old company. Now I work in a Pod. Which I like just fine BTW. What do you tend to work on throughout the day? It varies depending on what's on deck to ship next. How late do you stay/what time do you go home? between 6:00 and 8:00 Are there any upcoming projects you can tell us about? [Classified] If you are allowed to talk about it, what is your salary? (starting & current) I make a decent living. Do you get bonuses? [classified] Is there a school you recommend going to? Digipen. I have friends that went there and learned a lot of good stuff. Are you happy with your current job? Why/why not? So, so happy. I work on things that matter to people and they people I work with are awesome. What is your dream job? This is pretty much it. If you could do it all over, would you choose this career path again? Oh yes. Any words of advice for anyone entering the field? Ship a game. Do it now. If you fail, do it again. Go look at the games shipping on Kickstarter. Many of them are just one or two people. They aren't triple A titles by a long shot, but they are fun and they have fans and backers. Find your strengths (programming, test, art, design, organization) and develop them. Find your weaknesses and make friends with people who complement you to partner with.

  • While I'm no Bungie employee, and certainly no expert on creating video games, the best advice I could offer is the advice that our great community guy DeeJ has shared with me. To get a job in the gaming industry, specifically Bungie, just getting a degree isn't always enough to land you a job. A degree simply gets your foot in the door. What you need to do if you truly want to make games, is find a way to show that you know what you're doing, and do it so you can present it to the company you're trying to work for. If you want to become a programer, work hard, study, and learn to become a master programer. Then think of a couple projects you would like to work on and do it! Don't let anything stop you. Once you have done a couple cool projects, build a portfolio along with a resume to present to companies and start applying around. Don't ever put off an education or anything, but remember: college is just a means to earn a degree. You have to learn everything yourself through hard work. I hope this at least helped you a little bit and I wish you the best of luck on your journey.
