Why no Liberal or Conservative only state would work.
I mean state as a sovereign political body, not a subdivision of the USA.
There have been several ideas based on this. Set up a Conservative and Liberal America, and then let them go. Split the country on political affiliation lines.
Why wouldn't this work? Both "Countries" would inevitably move back to the center. Americans aren't liberal nor conservative. They are centrist. I love it when pundits try to take a centrist stand, and paint it as being right or left.
What do I mean? Take a purely conservative state. They would have very few business regulations, and many social laws (I don't give a shit if you are Libertarian and deny this, you are a minority. The Republican Party is the voice of the Right, not you, and they tied their wagon to the Religious Right). Eventually people would find a dirty environment, and restrictive social laws too much, and they would leave.
Now, the purely liberal state would have too many business regulations, and ultimately they would have to find a new way of doing business. Personal freedoms would be high, but too much liberty and the people would start to lose their work ethics. Eventually it would go broke, as business would be impossible at a certain point.
So, the lesson here, if there is one, is that people really should just learn to compromise. You can't get your way on every issue. Politics is about give and take. Stop calling for secession on political leanings, unless you are ready to fail.
