Hello, welcome to the family/forum BBQ (Not Bob-B-Q, I understand if you were confused)*. There will be plenty of snacks and slingshots, not necessarily in that order.
Imagine Bungie as a family party during the Summer (late afternoon to mid-evening, suburban backyard, grass and shrubbery, a nice place with a patio, etc).
Destiny: The young members who get excited over everything and love to talk about what they just heard or thought of. It's also where the elders come by to tell stories of great adventures and mythical trials. Make sure you think about these stories carefully or else you might miss something.
Bungie: The "parent's table" that we can all go up to and talk at but that is really meant for the "big kids" and adults. You're still welcome to come by, just mind your manners and watch what you say, not everyone likes to talk about drunk uncle Webmaster.
Community: This is where everyone you like gathers. It's the backyard BBQ* (see above) or your cousin's basement home theatre with a gameroom (LAN party). Just don't turn on them. They have a cold attitude to people who act like an outsider and they might just shun you until Oni 2 is released, maybe even Marathon 4.
Gaming: This is where the "adolescents" hang out and bicker about which shooter is the best. Some are much more mature but you will see an even balance between rage and passion. Just don't say "It's just a game." Ever. Then there's the debate on who has the better/cooler sibling "Big bro Xbox is way cooler!" "No, Sis Sony is!" "Nintendo-sempai is very nice, we should all get along."
Support: Remember when you broke your arm? Lost your favorite toy? Fell off your bike? This is where you ask for help and your mother, father, cool uncle or aunt, or anyone you really don't mind comes to help you out. You pretty much only go to them in certain situations and you only see some of them there. You also get to meet others who are sharing the same problem. It's like a support group run by a nice grandmother (Achronos and NIS) who fixes everything.
OffTopic: Drunk grandfathers, uncles, and aunts that you barely know but love/hate to watch. They stumble over their words, cuss, make no sense, and have a very good or very bad time. Every now and then you meet your neighbourhood friend or close cousin here and you have a good conversation. However, some annoying cousin will come over and ruin it most of the time. Here you will find dozens of relatives who all look and act the same. They are even called by the same name half the time and they aren't very classy individuals (unlike your mother). Try to avoid them. Oh, and watch out for your second-cousins in the shed who are smoking...something.
AllTopics: This is where the parents and party hosts go. They watch over everything and commune when and where they can. They are practically Ninj-...Pirates, definitely pirates who are roaming the high seas or a flood, maybe even just people who want to drink from the water hose so to speak.
Followed Tags: This is pretty much the tumblr fan of this party.
Popular Tags: You know that teenager who just got twitter? That's this forum.
Profile: This is your room. You go here to get away from it all and to see what needs updating, changing, and replying. It's a good, safe place.
Edit: It finally died down.
Edit: It's back.

I feel like an archeologist, finding this ancient relic of the past
-
This #offtopic description is 100% accurate
-
Are you sure it isn't barbeque?
-
Maybe I got it all wrong here but to me, the Community Forum is still the Community Forum, the Septagon from B.old. And the Gaming Forum is Optimatch combined with game related topics. Offtopic is still The Flood and Bungie is the Bungie Universe Forum.
-
This is a good thread
-
Goddamn, the Septagon still has its head up its own ass.
-
Good read, and very accurate :)

GG this was quite fun to read

This is the most apt forum description I have ever read. Well done, OP.
-
Not sure if the OP is trying to be helpful or insulting
-
I enjoyed this reading material, but human blood drinking is still my favorite pastime.
-
This needs to be in the FAQ
-
This is a very well thought out post. Congrats are in order for this. Well done.

Haven't visited this part of Bungie.net for a while, so I decided to pop over from the flood and I immediately find this thread. Stay classy, community.
Community:This is where everyone you like gathers
Define "like".

This is where we cook all the steaks bungie owe us.

This should be a sticky... oh wait they nuked that as well with the update. *mumbles*

That pretty much sums it up. Except Bungie, that forum is an introductory just as much as Destiny is. The difference is the longevity of interest. The Flood has high longevity, everyone eventually goes there and gets stuck. Gaming is next, new games are always coming out, there's always something to talk about. Community follows, the community is always changing, but it moves quite slowly. Bungie is up after that, Bungie is constant. Sometimes new things are to be read, but usually after you've had your fill of this forum, you only go back occasionally. Destiny actually has very low longevity, after the game comes out people will be more concerned with actually playing it than spending day and night fantasising about it, threads will get old fast when nobody is making new ones. Support has the least longevity, it will always be necessary, but you go there, get your problem fixed, then you're done.
