". . . it's because our school system values grades more than students value learning."

Edited by eliteslaya: 4/16/2013 3:09:55 AMI cheat. Almost every single time. Why? Because I lack the desire to learn things I don't want to learn about. However, my curiosity takes me places that school never could. I've learned so much about Game Development thanks to my passion and desire to learn more and perfect the field. And again, why? Because it's what I love to do. No teacher or report card will slow me down. I know what I want to do in life, and i'm not going to let the system limit me or dishearten me. I value learning. Especially learning about things that I want to learn about. What good will four years of High School do if you don't care about the material? I've taught myself so much more than my school ever could thanks to one simple book that i've read on my own time. Curiosity drives people to do things they would have once easily dismissed. And curiosity is my #1 source for developing intellect.

fun fact: in India, cheating on an Exam (of any type) can get you around 2 to 5 years of jail time, plus a large fine, usually around 2000 Rupees. so if you think you are getting shit for Cheating on your exam, think again.

Agree 100%. Why in the world would anyone not know or want to know about something they are interested in.
-
True.
-
Ask kids what they're interested in and teach them about that. Then test them on it. I bet their grades would be a lot better if they actually cared about what they're learning. Give a curious mind enough time and I'm sure they'll ask about all the "basics" we learn today.

Pretty much

Psh. No.

Because American kids aren't disciplined enough and are mostly careless when it comes to education, but it's good because it gives the hard working people better chances to get jobs.

I didn't learn anything, that's why i joined the infantry

I think schools should focus on helping students find their passion. Schools just try to get kids out ASAP which thus causes them to only worry about grades. I hated high school because when I graduated I had no idea what my passion was. This therefore has made me waste time and money in college.

Life is graded on a curve :-)

Agree. Here is today's world in a nutshell: the smartest person on Earth, literally a combination of Albert Einstein, Steven Hawking, and Sheldon Cooper, could apply for a job. Simultaneously a guy with a 2.8 GPA, but a college degree could apply for that same job. The man with the 2.8 GPA is picked simply because he has a degree.

I agree.

In high school, getting a good grade is far more important than knowing the material and getting a low grade. If you didnt pay attention during the lesson then you -blam!-ed up. But the test can determine your grade average for the entire marking period. So what's more important? Being a goody two shoe saint or getting good grades.
