Halo 4, Disappointing or Above average? *Kind of Spoilers*

I got Halo 4 yesterday and managed to complete the campaign on normal (so i could enjoy the story) and it was great i loved it. i'm playing through on legendary now to really experience the campaign. But it doesn't really feel like Halo anymore. Parts of it felt like Mass Effect (I think it maybe down to the Didact's character design which made me feel this). Other points felt like Metroid Prime to me too which could be down to the promethean vision ability and the portals looking like Aether to Dark Aether portals. I felt that Chief is too chatty which is a foolish thing to say i know how else would they develop Cortanas story, I'm just use to always playing the silent type in Halo game so it's strange to hear Chief talk so much. I felt as if the Covenant are like push overs now, especially when fighting them alongside the Prometheans even on legendary. I didn't keep up much with the promos before Halo 4's release but i did watch the Forward Unto Dawn YouTube series and got really excited for the game. When Commander Lasky popped up in the campaign I was grinning waiting for references to the series but it came across like Lasky and Chief haven't really met before and I only noticed one nod to them having a history which was later melted away, when Lasky started talking to Chief about his past like they never crossed paths before. I hoped for the writing in that aspect to be a better. Why did they decide to turn your last struggle with the Didact into a quick time event! I was pissed off after that scene I couldn't give a -blam!- about how the rest of the story played out. It really affected it for me. I understand the means to emerse the player but either make it a flushed out cut scene or a truly epic boss battle that the player deserves because you've been taking -blam!- from this turd all through the game and nows your chance to get even. And finally the multiplayer. I don't know if I like it or not. It's worst multiplayer i've played on halo but I still enjoy it. the changes of Infection into Flood is like a dream come true but the lack of Firefight is heartbreaking. Sure we get Spartan Ops but it's so-so compared to firefight for me. My main grievance about the MP has got to be the near Call of Duty game play. If I wanted a Call of Duty online experience i'll play call of duty. it does it better. It's the start of something terrible I think. This is what makes Halo 4 feel like anything but Halo 4. I feel like Ordinance drops have tipped the balance of the game. The majority of the armour abilities suck and the avatar designs and armour designs are some what of an eye-sore. Halo online has always to me been about using the same tools everybody else has and coming out on top with your own wits and skill and not with the having enough kills to call an airstrike. All halos have had this even Halo Wars which wasn't even a Bungie game but if felt like Halo. Personally I think that Reach is the better game (Shoot me dead i know loads of folks disagree) all though Halo 4 has an jaw dropingly awesome story everything else is lackluster. Yet another Halo game that hasn't topped CE. I'd give Halo 4 an 8/10 but still have a small voice telling me i'm being generous and another telling me i'm being harsh. Thats my opinion of the game but what does everybody else think? I'm interested to see what you folks think of the new Halo? =]

 • Rule of thumb when talking about Halo 4's ending: Didact survived.
Posted by: Sandtrap The three things that bothered me the most were mostly trivial stuff, but it didn't help with my immersion to it. Every time I fought Elites, I didn't want to fight them. Not because they were now a boring rather repetitive enemy, but because their reasons for re-forming the Covenant were stupid and in my opinion not like them at all. This is the race that fought the prophets to a standstill before they brought out their ace in the hole and then formed the Covenant. They had to have some intelligence to make their own spacecraft right? That intelligence was rotted after 3000 years of religious dogma being shoved down their throats by, oddly enough, the Prophets. After that long of believing you'll ascend to godhood alongside the Forerunners, it can kinda get to your head. The Prophets won against the Elites: they won not by military might, but by turning them into obedient cannon fodder. The general "feel" of a fair amount of the game. I can understand that 343 might change things up appearance wise because this was their first game and they wanted to make it clear that the series was in different hands now. But they overdid it. When I look at all the various aliens and things in the UNSC, it just doesn't say halo to me. No connection whatsoever. And finally, why orange? I understand that players needed a distinction between the Didact and his forces when compared to normal Forerunner architecture, to distinguish, good forerunner, bad forerunner. But is there any logical reason the Didact would change his colour, his forces colour, and even the Forerunner environment around him and his forces to orange? Again, you have this split, this contrast and clash. Orange is the color of the Composer, and thereby the color of the composed humans that became Prometheans. Plus there's the simple fact that blue indicates auromated Knights and Orange means they have a leader. I liked the campaign, probably one of the best ones I played in a long time, but I had to force myself to get immersed into it, which ironically helped drive me away from it.
