An Idea for Mitigating the Tagging System

Sites like stack exchange (http://math.stackexchange.com, http://stackoverflow.com, etc.) use tagging systems very effectively, however they are reputation-based sites which rely heavily on search engines for users to locate content. A similar but different site, Quora has a different system that I think would work better on Bungie.next. The site consists of People, Questions, Boards, and Topics. A user has a feed of content in a Facebook style manner, consisting of Questions posted (a) by People they follow, (b) on Boards they follow, and (c) about Topics they follow. Topics are simple. There can be many, and they are somewhat similar to tags. Generally when asking a question you want to mark it in the correct topic, so the people who are knowledgeable in that area will see it. You can mark a question with multiple topics. Topics work excellently, just as tags work well on Stack Exchange. Boards are not too important, and are a fairly new Quora feature. There is a pretty simple solution here. Currently the options at the top of the forum are [Latest] [Popular] [Debated]. Add a fourth, [Following], which is the default filter when loading the forum, which displays all content with tags that you are following, as well as posts by users you follow. This would serve as a kind of interest network, and would make the tagging system sturdier. Also required would be auto-suggestions whilst typing into the tags box. Tags should also be moderated heavily for a while until a general system is established.
