Community: Would you buy a limited edition version of Destiny?

Place yourself in this scenario: you don't get to play a version of the game (demo, beta, etc.) before it's released and therefore get a chance to judge the game for yourself. Say you've seen some gameplay, and it looks good, but you're still not quite sure. Based solely on your opinion on Bungie as a developer and their past successes and mistakes, would you be willing to spend the extra cash on a limited edition? I realize there might be some bias, since this is Bungie's website. I personally would, as to me, Bungie has proven themselves to be a developer that is extremely passionate about the games they make.

  • I don't usually buy limited editions unless they have something really special to offer.

  • I got $150 GameStop for my Christmas from my cousins/aunt/uncle. The $100 gift card is going towards my preorder for the Limited Edition of Destiny. The other $50 will cover the rest of the LE, and what's left will be for a game guide or whatever else.

  • For me, as a consumer, it completely depends on the price difference as well as the content difference. If the two are reasonable, then I may pay extra. Most of the packaging and marketing differences are decided by the distributor, not the developer, aren't they?

  • Yes. Bungie puts some seriously nifty stuff in their limited editions. I would definitely pay for it.

  • No because for all I know it could be a turd, and I would have just wasted a lot.

  • Well I would need to look at what is being sold and at what price. If it's £30 more than the standard edition and only includes a couple of posters then hell no. However, should something that can be compared to Dr. Halsey's journal (wink wink) be included, then I might consider it.

  • No. I have never bought a legendary / veteran anything, and unless there is something actually of irreplaceable value in there I never will. The only thing I missed out on and would have liked to have had was Halo 3's Chief's helmet. Other than that, no. You are talking about a game that we know basically nothing about. Why in the world would you shell out extra $$ for something you don't even know if you are going to like or not?

  • There would have to be a noticeable difference between hardware exclusives rather than software exclusives for me. I feel that too often in today's gaming world for consoles that using "in game exclusives" (armor, weapon skins, bonus content, DLC codes etc) are trying to be forced to justify the cost of a Limited Edition. I'd like more hardware that I can save on a shelf for years to come, the Halo Reach Statue was a great example.

I will most definitely think about it when they come out with those details. knowing Bungie for so long I believe and have faith that it's going to be good, but we haven't see anything yet so we shall see.

  • Depends what comes with it. So long as it doesn't turn out like Halo 4 did ect.

  • Yes. Without hesitation. Destiny won't have Microsoft screwing the editions over.

  • if it's like a cool disc of extra content like the halo 2 limited collector's edition then sure i don't appreciate statues/helmets/knickknacks

  • Without a doubt. There's few developers I trust as much as I trust in Bungie. They never fail to make amazing games, and I think that taking on a new IP after 10 years of Halo is the best thing for them and for gamers.

  • It entirely depends on what comes with it.

  • Now that I'm earning a lot of cash (for me, at least), I'd definitely purchase it! I have faith in Bungie's new IP. :-)

  • Yes. I've bought at least the limited edition of Halo 3, Reach, and slightly less related, Halo 4

  •
Posted by: IHaveTURRETS JR It entirely depends on what comes with it.
Exactly. I wouldn't get it if it only comes with some little book or something that won't be usable in-game (I've done this with a few things. I won't do it again).

  • I wasn't very impressed with the other collector's editions or limited editions of any other Bungie game I've purchased. Unless they throw in some very compelling things, I'm avoiding it. Might even wait it out just to see if the community ruined this next game like they did others.

  • Yes. I buy limited editions of games that I really care about and expect a lot from. It was a big mistake with Halo 4... But I guess the box was cool?

  • I buy limited editions if they are worth it. So far though, all the halo games I bought were limited edition. Usually for me rpg games with limited editions that I like are a must buy. I can see myself buying a limited edition of destiny.
