Sony files patent to prevent used game sales

We've heard this as rumor before. Could there be some truth to it?
And how will this affect you in he next generation of consoles?

There have been lots of rumors about Microsoft and Sony trying to prevent used games sales, I really hope none of it goes through. How else am I supposed to get those games I missed out on after they stop printing new copies?

Digital downloads is the way to go for future generations. I don't have the same need to buy/sell/trade games when I can get them for a ridiculous sale price on Steam. $7.50 for a GOTY edition of a game? Done.

Well look on the bright side. If Sony patents this technology, Microsoft won't because they don't want to pay patent fee's to Sony. The next console generation will be dominated by Microsoft.

Done.[/quote]Ah the thought of buying a game and downloading is great until the servers are shut off and your game collection and your money is gone forever. At least with disks you can still use them which is why I hate downloading games, there should be an option to download the game but pay a bit extra for them to mail a hard copy.

Every game on steam has key codes from the developers, if steam runs out of those codes they can no longer sell that game until they get more.

This is a really stupid idea if they do it, I understand why they would want to though. What if someone wanted to play the game at a friend's house but didn't want to unhook their console and take it with them? They wouldn't be able to with this stupid idea.
