Is the new story inspired by the Mayan books of Chilam Balam?

With the release of snippets of information on the story of the next project ("destiny"), there are some large parallels that can be drawn rather easily between the the setting of the new story and the books of Chilam Balam of the Mayan civilization. Can someone from deep inside the bungie cave confirm if this was indeed an influence or inspiration for the new works?

  • Yeah, that's not going to happen. Destiny hasn't been officially announced.

  • Many Bungie games are influenced by Literature, look up the "Marathon" Book and the "Ringworld" series.

  • What parallels are you talking about? On a side note, if the Mayans were so smart, how come they died out?

  • In the Chilam Balam books, the Maya priests believed that one of their gods who came from the stars will return to earth to fight and protect it from other gods from the stars coming to destroy it in an epic battle of good vs evil. I'm sure you can see the parallels here. The scraps we got of the destiny story hints at earthlings defending the city while an alien ship is defending earth against other aliens from the cosmos. And to be clear, I'm in no way implying that Bungie writers stole the Idea. I'm just asking if this specific document was an influence on the new story.

  • The mayans were tribals with knowledge that tribals never possess. Meaning they were taught.
