I thought Bungie wanted to avoid sci-fi games

So, I thought Bungie were not longer going to make any sci-fi games, but instead wanted to go in a different direction.

Clarke's 'Childhood's End'. They should stick to their strengths, especially with the horribly unfair terms of their deal with Activision.
Unfair? They were the ones who decided to leave Microsoft and their multi-billion dollar cash cow franchise in the first place. And the terms with Activision are 3 games on all 3 consoles....whats bad about that?
I think he's talking more about the restriction imposed by the publisher to receive royalties and "extra" profit (good rating of 90% from revieweras etc...) than anything else. But i consider it's a good thing for Bungie, this is clearly a challenge for them. Seeing how hard the contract is, it will push them to their limits, conclusion : Activision contract has good in it. Well, back to the thread, OP, Bungie won't avoid SCi-Fi game (at least during these 10 years) and if i don't make a mistake Cortana 5 talked about a possible trilogy based on 3 differents mythic sword. Maybe Destiny will be their "last" great Sci-Fi game before they make something different. But i must admit i would like to see Bungie resurect Project Phoenix ! if a dev is watching my lines he he ^^

 • I think when Bungie said they wanted to try something new and different, many people assumed that they would be doing everything differently, but the fact of the matter is that they are going to do what they are best at, and if that means making a sci-fi game, I think they are going to go for it. However, as others have pointed out, the sci-fi genre is quite diverse and they can still, within the sci-fi genre, create a universe very different than that of Halo or Marathon. • Like the others who posted, I haven't heard that Bungie wanted to step of the science fiction path either. I do get the sense that Destiny is more of a science-fantasy game than sci-fi however, more fantastic, and not as grounded as Halo and Marathon. It is as if they're getting lighter and lighter in terms of sci-fi. Marathon was hard, Halo a bit less, and Destiny light/fantastic. It would be like comparing Star Trek to Star Wars; the first focuses a lot on science, the latter doesn't. That's my impression of Destiny anyway. [Edited on 11.29.2012 5:52 AM PST]

 • I don't remember Bungie ever admitting to not wanting to make more sic-fi games, I only remember them saying they wanted to try something different from what their Halo games were. So yes, while Halo is a sic-fi game, the genre itself is massive and is probably one of the better genre types that will allow them to bring their new game Destiny into a "new and different direction" as opposed to their Halo universe.
