Maybe he planted an image of the Flood devouring whole species in their heads, and they just 'opted out'.

Yprin was idiotic enough to let the primordial speak on broadcast to human worlds. Thus it spoke of some truth that was just too much to bear in which Forthencho said "lowered our morale" and later commented that it nearly destroyed them. [Edited on 11.23.2012 5:42 PM PST]

Poor.[/quote] So you're saying that nothing the Primordial had to say could have reasonably warrented the suicides and low morale of the humans? It is kept a mystery so the sequels can have something to talk about. The result is so extreme to portray how enigmatic and dangerous the Primordial is.

Just reread Primordium and I realised what this meant. When Chakas and the Didact were questioning the Primordium, it revealed that the Flood was meant as a means to bring unity to all in the galaxy, at the cost of immense pain. The Flood will always be around, since there is no cure and no immunity. Forthencho sums this up, saying, "No immunity and no cure. There is only struggle, or succumb. Either way, the Primordial will have its due. We have met our creators, they have given us the answers we sought - and that is our curse." The humans were horrified by this truth - there was no way to eradicate the Flood, so their ultimate fate was either eternal struggle or eternal pain as a host to the Shaping Sickness.

[/quote] That's really the only thing I was disappointed about in the Forerunner saga. The Flood went from an extra galactic, hyper evolved galaxy consuming "race" to just a weapon. All the mystery and fear that came from them in the past was just reduced to, "Oh, hyper advanced weapon, s'pose we gotta kill it then."

I totally agree with you, they ruined a great chance for the halo cannon, the flood lost most of its mystery.

Forerunners created the Halos because of the Flood, Halos are maintained by the Monitors, Covenant want to kill humanity because of their belief in the Great Journey enacted by the Forerunners, Covenant release the Flood, Flood have a central intelligence known as the Gravemind, the Portal on Earth was constructe by a Forerunner, the portal led to the Ark which was also created by the Forerunners, the Ark created the Halos... and so it goes on. Just about [i]every[/i] major plot point or twist is ingrained with the actions of an ancient alien race and has been since the very start of the series. The Flood are not simply a manufactured weapon, in fact if anything 343i have consolidated the Flood as biological, evolutionary certainty through the exposition granted by the Timeless one. The Flood are the perfect form of life, you accept them as evolution's final step and submit to them to attain the Mantle or else you get wiped out. Refer back to the top of my post.
