How Would You React to First Contact with Aliens?
How would you react to first contact with aliens?
What would be your first move?
What would be your survival strategy?
If I just heard about first contact on the news:
Personally getting out of cities as soon as possible will be my first move. I'm usually very much in the news/media loop so hopefully I will get a slight jump on others who are less aware of global events and be able to get out of the city before massive traffic congestion problems arise. I'd pack bicycles (in-case of traffic and other obstacles.) water, canned food, transistor radios and probably head out into the bush-land (I live in South Australia.)
EDIT: Should have specified the contact. I mean [b]ANY[/b] contact with aliens. Even if peaceful. That would still be my course of action due to massive social ramifications such as riots, religious nuts, stock market crash etc.
Let's just say that the contact was a sequence of prime numbers from radio waves in space.

Talk with as many people as I know and try to make sure everyone I know stays level headed. Then encourage them to do the same with people they know. Assuming the aliens are peaceful.

If I was presented with undeniable proof that we did indeed make peaceful contact with aliens (or the other way around), I'd say,"Oh, OK." and go back to what I was doing. If it was hostile, I'd say,"Huh, that sucks." Either way, it doesn't matter what I do. Might as well not let it affect me for as long as possible while any problems are worked out. If the aliens come for me, I'd probably just go with them. Or fight them if they mean to kill me.

Me: I have a heart attack from how amazing it is. The World: I imagine there will be some trouble. I just hope that they wouldn't be like humans, and I don't mean in the physical sense.

If peaceful, I would join in the celebrations that I'm sure would go on. This first contact would be the single most important event in the history of mankind, and I would want to celebrate. If it was hostile, however. I would get my stuff and move away to somewhere rural since I have family in places like that. Aliens would most likely attack where the lights are brightest (big cities).

I'd probably be way more calm if I saw it on the news than I'd be if I was out walking and just happened to stumble upon one. Don't know what I would do if the latter happened, probably instinctively attack it before it did something to me.

Run to the nearest book store, grab as many engineering and crackpot machine instruction manual as I could, run to the local archery store, stock up on arrows/gear, grab a water filter+ extra filters, canned foods, a radio+ batteries, a flare, lighter, a pick ax+ refining/smithing for dummies book and wait... while attempting to create something to defend myself.
