I'm wondering because in the games Flood shoot master chief and he gets hurt but how if he has thick meta all around him is it that future guns are just that powerful?
-
I think they make him weak so its more of a challenge in game
-
There are always those parts of the armor that aren't thick metal.
-
Bullets do get more powerful in the Halo canon. As for how strong...well I honestly have no idea. A plasma pistol overcharged could burn a hole clean thorugh MK IV armor. (Well, not clean though, it melted the armor)
-
MJOLNIR isn't impervious to AP rounds, you know.
-
It's largely ceramic, from memory, rather than metal.
Posted by: BattlingMonster There are always those parts of the armor that aren't thick metal.
The undersuit is a titanium nanoweave, so yes, it is metal. The rest of the suit is tank-grade titanium I believe; it's effectively bullet proof up to a certain caliber. The gameplay is not canon, btw. [Edited on 09.18.2012 4:31 AM PDT]

The armour's outer shell (the green plates etc.) is composed of a multilayer alloy of remarkable strength. The bodysuit underneath this (the black part) is armored titanium nanocomposite, like the stuff used on Scorpions and Hogs. Small arms fire would for the most part be fairly useless against MJOLNIR in canon (ignoring obvious gameplay mechanics). It's been a while since I read it but as far as I can remember one of Grey Team takes a shot to the stomach in The Cole Protocol and just shrugs it off.

mmmmmmm? Enough to stop this. Forum Topic that is. Left with all choice I edit then tingle. I live and say fast enough to dodge bullets. You missed it 104. My answer holds greatest switch. Because thats how mine works. And is that tough. Thats 2 with 1. Me. Myself speaking. Neo to you. Or Yoda if yo prefer. I like you friends. This [edit] brought to you by: The guy who lived. How bullet proof? It is not enough.
-
The metal bits are bullet-resistant. The black bodysuit can be pierced by a Flood's puny little tentacles.
Posted by: And Im Here Too The metal bits are bullet-resistant. We don't know what the Flood spore's injector thing is actually made of but it's obviously pretty tough to get through metal nevermind the fact that the Forerunner Combat suits couldn't stop them.
Posted by: kevow5 I think they make him weak so its more of a challenge in game
This. I doubt Halo would have sold millions in you could walk through the campaign and never die and it took you 20 mins to kill someone on MP.

According to FoR, higher than .30 cal or armor piercing rounds are threat to MJOLNIR. So yeah, it's not completely bulletproof.
Posted by: And Im Here Too The metal bits are bullet-resistant. A human form was able to send Sergeant Johnson flying across a good 10-15 meters with a single swipe of his "tentacle"

It can stand a lot of small arms fire. The Mark IV absorbed impacts and so it was very hard to damage with kinetic weaponry, but it could still be done.

As others have said, it's not completely bulletproof. Small arms are of little threat, but larger caliber AP pose a serious threat to the suit and wearer.
-
Posted by: BattlingMonster There are always those parts of the armor that aren't thick metal.
Even the black mesh under the green armor is just as tough, but more flexible.

If you shot a pistol at a Spartan in anything but the visor, I don't think you'd scratch it. But, let's be honest here, I doubt that we'll develop any material that's truly bullet-proof. Their armor is fantastic, but I'm pretty sure suppressive fire from something like a DMR or an Assault Rifle would tear through the armor. It's why energy shields exist.

Its Titanium A

Despite being so advanced, a single magnum bullet to the helmet goes straight through (without a shield)and gets a headshot, or in Kats case 1 needle from a needle rifle goes straight through the shield and the armour (although this isn't techniqly a bullet).
