• There's almost no physical likeness, it just shares its name.

 • What you think Bungie originates everything themselves? We have weaponry today more advanced than the canon. Most things artists do in any context are inspired by something in real life. (Hence the reason we are using bullets 550 years in the future)

 • the m14 looks nothing like halo reaches, the only similar thing is that its single shot, semi auto with fast firing and the name bungie probably based theirs off it though (google image search M14)

 • It's one of these with slight modifications. It looks very little like the DMR imo.

 • DMR stands for Designated Marksman Rifle. Its a vague group of weapons not one weapon.

 • A DMR (Designated Marksman Rifle) is its own class of weapon.
They're more likely to use a BR as a reference. That looks nothing like the DMR aside from the fact that it is also a gun. If you're going that route, you can post any picture of a gun and say that's a reference point for Bungie.

Designated Marksman Rifle is a way to describe any type of rifle given to a Sniper in a squad or detachment.

 • Many weapons are classified as designated marksman rifles, it does not refer to any one weapon (besides the USMC DMR). It is similar to how an Assault Rifle refers to any lightweight fully-automatic rifle, or how a Battle Rifle refers to any high-powered semi-automatic rifle. It's just a category. As for the link, the M392 shares literally nothing in common visually with the M14 family of weapons. Sorry.

It's strange the military doesn't use anymore weapon types hundreds of years in the future.
...i dont want to flame, but thats also quite a dumb thing to say a machine gun is a class, a pistol is a class, a sniper is a class,a rifle is a class. these are just subclasses, theres no reason to invent a gun that fires nerf rounds at 3000fps so they are lethal, the military has created the best types of weapons and has no reason to create new, inferior types. and you think a video game company can create logical weapons that are better than what a military engineer can create? you have to think of it from a development standpoint... it would be stupid to create guns that are some mass effect 2 space age stuff. oh and Holy crap :o

 • DMR is just a military term for a Battle rifle with a high powered scope. A Designated marksmen is a soldier who uses the said rifle acting as squad support unlike snipers who work with just a spotter. [Edited on 09.09.2010 12:02 PM PDT]
