Halo PC keys connected to something in Halo Reach?

Hey, forgive me if this is the wrong forum, but I'd love to get a response from Urk if possible. We've been told many times over the last year and a bit, that our 25-digit Halo PC keys will unlock something in Reach (I'm thinking probably something similar to the Halo 2 emblem thing). Well it's been ages now since we've had an update on this, and whilst I'm cool with whatever it is being a surprise, I'm a little suspicious as to maybe whether what it would've been was cancelled. So, can anyone tell me if our Halo PC keys will come in handy for something with Reach (not implying that I/we would throw it away lol)? :) Note from Sawnose: Whoa, people! My PM box just exploded after replying below. I can't field questions on an individual basis, and there are getting to be too many posts in this thread for me to read everything. The answer: wait and see. And don't try and buy it now, because the list of valid keys was locked in May to those already used, to prevent us from being overrun by keygenners. A few more weeks of patience, and we'll start validating keys, PC and Mac. The reward is a small visual thing in-game, similar to what we promised for Halo 2 players. Please self-police this thread by pointing people to the main answer: wait and see. [Edited on 07.27.2010 9:03 PM PDT by sawnose]

 •
Posted by: DTA MoonDawg I am happy they redacted the cut off date. I owned Halo PC a long time ago, but after getting a new computer and moving to a new house, that key became lost for years. I went out and bought a new copy of Halo PC today with a gift card for my new computer. Now I can use the code for the flair as well! I can understand why some people are frustrated with the decision of taking back the cut off date, but if people go out and buy Halo PC, it will boost the game's population and give Bungie some more cash monies!
I'm in the same boat as you. I bought Halo CE about a year ago, but never bothered to play online. I see it as win-win really; nobody feels left out who might have missed the cut-off date, and the Halo PC community gets some new players =D

 •
Posted by: furiocity This isn't meant to represent Halo 1 players in general, its meant to represent the Halo PC community aka the Maw that thrived circa 2003-2007, ie - people that legitimately played Halo PC during its life. If you are going out and buy a key just for this, you are defeating the purpose of the emblem, they definitely should have kept the cutoff date.
It gave me a chance to get it, because I still have my Halo: CE from 2005 here but I have never platyed online before because my computer didn't allow it, but since I got a new computer I will still get the flair because they removed the cutoff date. And I think the should set a new cutoff date at:9/14/2010.

 •
Posted by: Skibur
Posted by: furiocity the Halo PC community is dead, the few servers that are left are loaded with hackers
Not true.
The Halo: PC community is very much alive. Last I was on there where about fifteen servers out of fifty with 16 people in them, and most others had maybe five people in them. Heck, I even have a friend who recently started hosting a server for Halo: PC and due to the large amount of traffic, is setting up a new dedicated server. Halo: PC is not dead. While I think that now people will only start buying Halo: PC for the visual flair, as opposed to the game. Granted now people who either lost their keys or never played online will have a chance at getting the flair which is a good thing. It's 50/50 in my mind.

 • The only real upside to removing the cutoff is that people who never played the game online will have access to this. According to sawnose, there were many people who only played single player when the game launched on PC. Otherwise there is almost no justification, the Halo PC community is dead, the few servers that are left are loaded with hackers, and buying the game now isn't actually going to give Bungie much money, if any at all, most of it will go to the retail stores or to Microsoft and Gearbox themselves. Buying a used copy off of amazon doesn't give Bungie money either, but that's beside the point, its not like Bungie is a small operation anymore anyways.

 •
Posted by: Interstel Funny but didnt someone just a couple of pages ago prove that a working keygen existed? I think deviating from the list of people who ACTUALLY played as of May 26th is unfair to those of who actually put in hundreds of thousands of online playtime hours. Interstel
You can all stop with the privilege garbage. You are not entitled to something because you played an inordinate amount of one mode of one version of Halo: CE. The deal was "owners of Halo for PC". The reason Halo: CE for Xbox is out, by Bungie's own admission, is that verification of copies of the console games is a logistical impossibility. The May 26th restriction was due to the possibility of unofficially generated keygen keys messing with the process. It never had anything to do with cutting out people who purchased the game after that date because they were too new and you did not want them in your imaginary club. Here's a story about me: I bought every Halo game after CE day and date of launch, and Halo: CE was maybe my second or third Xbox game. Bought Limited Halo 2. Legendary Halo 3. Limited Halo Wars. I happily display my scale Mjolnir Mark VI helmet on the shelf above my monitor. I've got all the novels. I've got a complete set of bagged issues of Halo: Uprising. I've got the hardcover Graphic Novel and all three hardcover comic compilations. I felt screwed like a lot of Halo: CE for Xbox owners, but I understood the reasons and didn't complain. Then Bungie gave us the opportunity to hop on the boat, and while I know all of the -blam!-ing and moaning from you guys here isn't going to change their minds, that you would even attempt to take this away from people in my situation is abhorrent. The Weekly Update says all legit keys are in, no cutoff date (yet). You're not going to change this by complaining that you've "earned" this more so than others; it was never even about that which you're telling yourself it is. Leave it alone, all of you.

 •
Posted by: Halo biggest fan Nice. I lost my CE copy when I moved a few years ago, so I will check my local game retailers later to see if they have a spare CE copy laying around!
Posted by: sawnose
Posted by: FlameSama666 Just want something spelled out in black and white by a Bungie employee (or any knowing mod) if at all possible. Because you might get an extra twenty bucks from me (and I can play on those PC exclusive maps I've never been on).
Yes. In fact, you don't even have to play it online. I have the full list of every "yellow sticker" code printed, and I'll just use that list, rather than the list of keys-played-online-before-May-26th.

Funny but didnt someone just a couple of pages ago prove that a working keygen existed? •
Posted by: Kickimanjaro I think people are buying it because then they can have the "Halo" title (which is for playing Halo: CE, Halo 2, Halo 3 (and ODST).
Posted by: Evil Johnny I can't believe people are actually buying the game just for a fancy little symbol they probably won't even use (as you can use only one out of numerous). Same thing will happen for the Marathon symbol, people will buy it and get through it only for the symbol and then forget about the game, lame. I'll get all the flairs, but because I bought all these games in the first place, never in a lifetime I'd pay more than 10 bucks (because it won't cost less than that, I wouldn't even pay 5 bucks for that) solely for a little visual like this.

That's what I meant in part.

 • Maybe I should check out ebay and see if you people are actually buying these pc keys just for some flair. I might actually be able to get a portion of the actual game paid for by you sucker....I mean super excited fans. Totally worth it.

However, they're giving Bungie $20, so I don't mind too much.
Posted by: furiocity This isn't meant to represent Halo 1 players in general, its meant to represent the Halo PC community aka the Maw that thrived circa 2003-2007, ie - people that legitimately played Halo PC during its life. Will I stilll get it?
Have you played Matchmaking in Halo 2 on your Gamertag (even if it was changed, as long as it is the same account)? If not, you don't get it. If so, you get it. Click on "Halo 3" in the very top left corner. Once loaded you should see "Overview, Halo 3: ODST, Halo 3, Halo 2, Achievements, Files". Click on Halo 2 and see if you have any games listed. I have some listed way back in 2007.
