Computer Games vs Xbox Games.

Ok now ive been meaning on making a topic about this for a while so here goes. I know that everyone keeps saying that computer graphics are much better than consoles graphics, but my point is that the computer games dont show it, xbox games look 100 times better that computer games. so why is this? is it that computer game developers never take computers to its limits or is xbox jus better cause its a console. there is no doubt that console graphics look better that pc, so why is this so if the computers have better graphics.

 • Well some of these answers have answered my questions, but i think, ive got age of mythology and i just look at it and imagine what it would look like on xbox and my picture of it on the xbox looks a lot better. And anyway i just got my computer upgraded to support age of mythology (thats how crap my previous computer was) and it now is barely able to support halo. But think how much money people spend in a life time buying, building and upgrading computers, compared to haw much people spend buying consoles and add on's and games, too me xbox seems a less expensive and less frustrating choice.

 • Wow, Lol. Where I work now, we make custom circuit boards all the way from bare fiberglass. The whole production process takes several days before we ship them off to the customer. That's a pretty forking serious hobby, 'Chief! *salutes* Seriously, though... That's what I meant by "from scratch", I'm sorry. I'm just used to thinking that way 'cause that's what I do. I kinda forgot that what most people mean by from scratch is just buying components, cables and stuff that're already manufactured and then assembling and setting up. (usually Winblows, lol, which really isn't setting anything up...) [Edited on 7/5/2004 1:18:48 PM]

 • I was going to build my own computer but I found a company that will sell me one with the same components without charging more than I'd be spending... Also, I don't trust myself with $800 processors (Athalon 64FX-53) because I'm kind of clumsy with smal stuff, 'cuz my hands (and me) are too big.

 • Of course, scratch! Building stuff is about my only hobby(next to some serious gaming).

 • I hope you didn't mean that you built everything from scratch! Lol. I've never bought a whole computer, either.(other than my Prancer!) Every PC in my home is slapped together. In fact, I don't think I've even bought all the components for any PC at once. I upgrade gradually; when I see something for what looks like a good price, I read some reviews to see if I want it. When I do upgrade, what I upgraded from gets handed down to my brother or mother and what it replaces might get passed to the other; when one of us upgrades, usually we all do! My PC already trounces the Xbox in graphical performance, but Prancer still sits proudly next to the TV set and will sit proudly on my desk after I get my mitts on that $50 VGA box... Unlike the PC used for games here, Prancer's only crashed a few times in the years it's been here, and that was with a badly ported PC game. (Jedi Academy- great PC game, terrible Xbox game!) Come to think of it, I think the Xbox offers best stability as well as value if your PC runs any Microshaft OS. I hear that Macs are much more stable and gaining more gamers' support, but they're so expensive and not as customizable... [Edited on 7/5/2004 1:11:29 PM]

 • Only suckers buy computers. I built my own. Plus PC has the better games. Besides, the Xbox is basically a PC with a controller. It's constrcted from off the shelf parts(like a computer). Hell, I could make an Xbox if didn't already have one. The more PC-ish, the better, I say.

 • I think that comparing PC to Xbox is like comparing apples to oranges. Which is better is really a matter of personal preference and what kinda computer you can have. Developers can do different things with each. PC games have to be written to be compatible with as many different plausible combinations of chipsets as possible because everyone's machine is unique. (except the pre-made ones...) A game for the Xbox is (or at least should be) optimized for one particular combination of hardware, so time can be spent taking advantage of every single feature and capability the Xbox offers and no time is spent on stuff that the customer's machine doesn't happen to support. It doesn't look like any one's done that, though; the cooling fan was removed from the design! Price- I see three main options: 1: I can drop a couplle hundred dollars on an Xbox bundle pack and buy new games for fifteen to fifty dollars each. (I've already done that.) 2: I can build a new PC to be able to play some of the newer stuff for somewhere in the $1200 to $2000 range depending on how far I wanna go and buy new games for $40-$80 each. 3: I can stick with my dusty yet trusty 2.2Ghz machine and buy new games for $8 (AVP2 gold for my brother) to $40 (highest I've seen at Sam's Club this week) from the bargain bin. (I'm doing that.) audio, video- A decent low-end system now can beat the Xbox in just about everything for about $1000. I don't care much for eye candy, though. I played a Halo PC demo on someone else's computer with all detail settings at or near lowest and I had a blast. The added content more than made up for feeling like I lost my glasses. If you have an HDTV and surround sound, it would be blasphemy to not have an Xbox using that. I don't, so my computer's monitor and a good set of headphones are better than my old TV set w/ built-in speakers. controls- My keyboard has enough keys for everything I've ever wanted to set up in a game, while my Xbox controller has only 14 buttons and button-like things but has scalable inputs on what it does have and they're all very easily reachable at all times. A really good mouse beats the snot outta clumsy thumbsticks, but the thumsticks compare just as favourably to a cruddy old mouse. With enough money, I could have all kinds of weird input devices for my PC that I see in stores. I have little money, so I've got just a decent, basic keyboard and mouse. PC controls can be customized, but Xbox controllers are standard so developers can guarantee you'll find a good setup among the options they offer. (unless they're stoopid- Google "Crimson Sea" and read a review) I don't have a preference for controller or my mouse/keyboard combo, they both have their perks for me. With a truckload of money, a PC can be beyond many people's wildest wet dreams. With only a few Franklins, the Xbox is the only way to get anything. The Xbox seems to me to offer the best deal for the money, supposing you like the controller. [Edited on 7/5/2004 12:55:11 PM]

 • I use a PC, but I think Mac is the best. My reason? Most of the early Bungie games are Mac only.

 • Why does PC stomp all others, you ask? I'll tell you! Quake, Doom, StarCraft, Age of Empires, Contra, and Halo PC games. That's why!

 • PC. Is. The. Best. Nothing can beat it. NOTHING. Xbox, PS2, GameCube; they'll get stomped itno the dust by the PC. I believe Best Person Ever agrees that PC is the best. I know someone else at these forums has to agree.

 • You know what game has sweet graphics? Magic: The Gathering. Sure, its not a PC or an Xbox game, but the card art is simply amazing.
