Not that much, actually. I don't know about "single greatest threat", but in regards to terrorism AQAP is pretty damn potent. They are the most active AQ branch in trying to attack us. Also, the emir of AQAP is also the general manager of AQ, which makes him the overall #2 leader in all of the network.

Al Qaeda weapons ship docks in Aden
According to a local Yemeni newspaper, on April 11 al Qaeda militants sailed a ship loaded with weapons into the country's southern port in Aden. Clashes erupted between the militants and security personel from the Yemeni anti-smuggling unit when the boat docked in Aden and the militants began offloading the weapons from the boat. The militants violently engaged the security personnel and then managed to escape by reboarding the ship and setting sail. Boats belonging to the Yemeni coast guard and navy attempted to follow the ship but apparently lost its trail. According to sources, two militants were killed by Yemeni security forces; it is unclear whether they were killed in the initial clashes at the port of Aden or during the maritime chase.
Very interesting look into AQAP's weapon smuggling operations.
ADEN/SANAA: Suspected militants killed five soldiers guarding a checkpoint in southeastern Yemen on Tuesday, local officials said, and a leader of a Shi'ite Muslim party was wounded in a drive-by shooting in the capital Sanaa in which two guards died. The incidents underscored the volatility in Yemen more than two years after long-serving President Ali Abdullah Saleh stepped down following months of protests by Yemenis demanding democratic reforms.
AQAP’s Shifting Tactics in Yemen
Yesterday [April 2, 2014], al Qaeda militants staged a coordinated attack on a Yemeni military headquarters in the southern port city of Aden, detonating a bomb laden vehicle at the complex’s main gate and attempting to storm the facility. This brazen assault was the latest in a string of sophisticated attacks carried out by al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) targeting major government and military facilities in Yemen. Since mid-2012, AQAP has stepped up the use of coordinated assaults on significant government and military facilities. Some examples include the September 2013 suicide assault against three military bases in Shabwa and the complex suicide assault against the Security Department headquarters in Aden. AQAP is not “imitating” ISIS as some have argued; the group has launched sophisticated assaults on military targets in the past. Rather, AQAP is changing the nature of its operations in response to its changing fortunes in Yemen.
The video above was released by AQAP's media wing, Al-Malahem. It is entitled "Beginning of the Rain" and the persons shown in the video are believed to have escaped the Sana'a Central Prison in February. The video is safe for work. In no way am I supporting the group by posting this, nor am I glorifying them, their ideals, tactics, or their message. This is an education threat meant to provide knowledge and discussion on terrorism and political violence in the world.

Saudi sentences top al-Qaeda man to death
A Saudi court has sentenced to death the "chief strategist" of a wave of al-Qaeda violence that erupted in the kingdom in 2003, a decade after his reported arrest. Faris al-Zahrani had been in custody ever since his detention near the Yemeni border in 2004, the Al-Madina newspaper reported on its website. The official Saudi Press Agency gave neither his name nor the date of his arrest in the southwestern city of Abha, saying only that he had shown no remorse while in custody.
In an online statement, Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) also said Riyadh's designation of the Muslim Brotherhood - a group whose political wings have contested elections in several countries - as a terrorist organisation proved that secular authorities would never tolerate Islamist groups.
The video of the statements is above. Video is safe for work.
AFP – Gunmen killed 20 Yemeni soldiers in a dawn attack on a checkpoint Monday, most of them in their sleep, in the latest in a wave of deadly violence blamed on Al-Qaeda. The assault came in the eastern province of Hadramawt were the security forces have suffered repeated losses which prompted President Abdrabuh Mansur Hadi to fire his interior minister earlier this month.
Unfortunately, AQAP remains resilient.

由Mags編輯: 3/23/2014 10:58:13 PMFirst video in AQAP's new video series entitled "Musayrah al-jihad" or "March/Journey of Jihad". It focuses on the former deputy Sa'id al-Shihri, who was killed in a US drone strike in 2013. The video provides a background into Sa'id's life and role within AQAP.
Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) recently released the first part of a video series titled "Journey of Jihad" about the life of Sa'id al Shihri, the former AQAP deputy who was killed by a US drone strike in July 2013. This first installment outlines al Shihri's transformation from a guard of Saudi King Abdallah bin Abdul 'Aziz to al Qaeda commander in Yemen by 2008, by way of interviews with several of his jihadi companions, many of whom were formerly imprisoned at Guantanamo.
Yemeni tribesmen bombed Yemen's main crude export pipeline on Saturday, forcing oil flows to be stopped, industry sources told Reuters. Yemen's oil and gas pipelines have repeatedly been sabotaged by insurgents or angry tribesmen since anti-government protests created a power vacuum in 2011, causing fuel shortages and slashing export earnings for the impoverished country.

Today at dawn a suicide bomber detonated a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (VBIED) at the Yemeni military intelligence headquarters in Lahj province north of the port city of Aden.
The Specialized Criminal Court on State Security and Terrorism in Riyadh charged eight defendants today with providing weaponry and financial funding to al Qaeda in support of terrorist operations both inside and outside the kingdom. The eight defendants were sentenced to jail terms ranging from three to six years and barred from traveling outside the kingdom for similar periods of time thereafter. The detailed charges handed down by the court in Riyadh include significant information about al Qaeda's terrorist network and intentions. Most notably, they indicate that al Qaeda seeks to commit acts of sabotage inside Saudi Arabia, specifically targeting large oil refineries in the eastern province of al Sharqiya. Additionally, al Qaeda has been trying to attract militants from Cuba, and to invest financially in a media agency in Egypt to spread jihadist news.
So it seems AQ is trying to recruit Cubans into the jihad. What do you make of this news, Flood? This is definitely interesting to me that they would try and recruit from Latin America/the Caribbean.
