It's not copium, it WILL pass.

No, it's not copium, and no, Bungie's silence does not mean they don't care or aren't doing anything. Quite the opposite. _ DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attacks are extremely serious and very, very hard to fight: there's a reason entire games can be crippled like this so quickly, and the fact that people are able to even play at all should be a testament to Bungie's cybersecurity. A fix will still take a great deal of effort to combat, however. _ The typical DDoS attack happens when one attacker's device uses several other devices to spam a digital service with constant bombardments of digital information, essentially drowning a server in requests and nothing-burger downloads to make said service or server unusable. Sometimes, these attacks can come from dozens, hundreds, or even more machines and comouters, all using all of their processing power to spam a service to instability. _ Let me put it this way: The less Bungie advertises, the less the cyberattackers have a chance to adapt to Bungie's defense efforts. Even vague comments, such as "We are close to a fix" runs the risk of alerting the cyberattackers and telling them they need to change tactics. _ Bungie's livelihood, their baby, their workforce, all the money on the line for Final Shape... they've got too much at stake to stay idle, so I can promise you, they are not. _ It sucks that we players are being kept in the dark, but it's unfortunately necessary to take down whoever is causing this mess in the first place. Or at least, build the walls necessary to make them stop. _ So. Eyes up, Guardians, but take some time to kick back. Try a new game, go back to an old one... read a book. Watch a show or movie. _ Weather the storm, for it will pass, and we'll be back to shooting aliens with space magic soon enough. _ Godspeed, Bungie. I know you're doing all you can.

  • Wasn't a DDOS and Bungie doesn't get nor deserve anyone's benefit of the doubt. They have outright lied so many times at this point.

It sounds logical and optimistic. But there are some other angles to take into consideration when talking about Bungie. Especially current Bungie. - they are not a small indie studio. They have Sony money - they’ve gone on record saying player’s anger doesn’t bother them, as long as they’re invested and playing - they’re known for very poor communicational skills in general, unless they’re hyping up an expansion - it takes a great deal of commotion from players before they do actually address anything. - in general they don’t really offer players any tokens or gestures for their inconvenience, and when they do it’s a well crafted half effort. The recent ritual armor is an example. 1) We weren’t “gifted” it, we still needed to go out and earn it. (I.e. more time spent grinding in game.) 2) The drop rate was purposefully low compared to other gear, in order to ensure people kept playing more to gather all pieces. 3) We also needed to transmog those pieces. And though it was announced before the start of the season; conveniently the armor was put into the game much later into said season, when there was a greater chance players already used all their allotted transmog resources and would be tempted to buy more from the Eververse store If this is indeed such a crucial moment in Destiny’s financial history for them, and they struggle as much with these “DDOS attacks” as you say they do, you’d think they’d put that much more effort into making sure they retain players. I think people aren’t asking for ridiculous forms of compensation, as much as they just want Bungie to make a non-convoluted and one sided gesture saying “Hey, this really sucked. For you and us. Here’s a token of our appreciation for sticking with us through times like this”

      • Look, it isn’t that I don’t understand that DDoD attacks are the reason we cannot play the game. I at least think we players should get some sort of compensation is all. Bungie had to already push back Master Crota, and still had it released during DDoS attack season. Some people who were hoping to get master Crota done this week, can’t because of it. Earlier today, I took 30 minutes to set up a team for Master Crota CP. But by the time we got in everyone had gotten weasel-ed and everyone left. It wouldn’t be as big of an issue if it was a 1-day thing. But it has been all week. It isn’t like we could have expected servers to be bad the entire week, and it isn’t fair to us players that we are potentially losing out because of it all. If bungie gave compensation to the players this time around, I at least would not be so hard on bungie. But because the way bungie manages their game, we know that there is no such thing as compensation for lost time. So when these servers do go down like this, the only perspective that a player has, is that we are losing out on stuff we could be grinding for now. What about the people who took time off of their jobs to do master, but now are struggling with it because of server downtime? Because when servers do go down; the only direction the players can look, is down. And there the spiral continues downward, until all you have left is a giant community of people who just complain about it. It isn’t fair to us, and it isn’t fair to bungie. I think some sort of compensation for the players, could be a step in the right direction at peace. Though at the end of the day, it isn’t my game. So if bungie ends up dying then they die. Unlikely, because they somehow held on this long. Could be due to the fact, that they only seem to care when they are edging deaths doors. But what do I know?
