Guided Games Updates/Plans for Future

Out of curiosity, are there any plans to revamp the Guided Games feature at any point? It is a great idea for a feature but executed poorly. A revamp would be fantastic to revitalize the playlist. As it stands there are quite a few issues. 1. Small population means very long queue times for seekers especially. The issue with this is that you can sit in queue for an hour and a half, but if you miss the 30 second popu once a match is finally found, you go right back to the back of the queue. This means that you are stuck sitting in front of the screen doing nothing so you don't miss it. Why not allow this search to go in in the background and allow players to play non-matchmade activities while waiting (i.e. patrol, tower, dungeons, etc.) 2. Guiding requires a player to be in a group of at least 3 and also requires at least 3 in the same clan. This seems needlessly restrictive. I understand that this began as a way for clans to recruit, but isn't it a tool better served to teach raids/dungeons than to use for recruitment? Also, because of these requirements, I can't just hop on and guide a team. I have to find 2 more people in my clan that feel like doing it as well. I'd rather just hop on and teach 4 or 5 at times. 3. It has had no attention at all and has been in beta since its release with Leviathan. It has had quite a few bugs in the meantime including encounters not dropping loot (this has been fixed). Using guided games also does not count toward raid triumphs taking a lot of incentive from using it. 4. Speaking of incentives, there really is not much incentive for the normal player to use it since it is the same loot as I can get using lfg with just a couple emblems added. There are many of us that would do it without these rewards, but you should know by now that many people only do things in this game for the loot. Throw in some emotes, shaders, ships, etc. for guiding and for seeking. There are ways to make it rewarding without giving it things of which people will be mad. 5. This may be a bit controversial, but you could add some tooltips to help explain basic mechanics while in the queuing process. Something like showing the symbols for Vow and explaining what the totems/obelisks are, or explaining how the Continuous, Angular, and Parallel buffs in Scourge of the past interact, etc. Obviously this should not be available immediately to avoid spoilers, but maybe added a week or 2 after raid release to assist with teaching or learning the mechanics. There are other items that could be updated or totally changed, but these are what I feel are probably the 5 biggest to look at in order to try and get people to utilize it. I would love to see the idea revamped and expanded on, and I know there are others out there that would like the same. Hopefully there are plans to at least look at it at some point and not just leave Guided Games for dead at this point.

  • Guided games is the ideal form of raid matchmaking. 3 clanmates to Sherpa you, with 3 noobies. In a perfect world, the 3 Sherpas can easily carry the whole raid while the other 3 are on ad clear. The reason why it doesn't work is because we're not perfect. Players are the problem. The Sherpas are not full carries. People can't take the 2-3+ hour raid. Frustration hits in. No mics. Eventually leading to failure. It's why alot of endgame players know optional matchmaking for higher level content never works. It's fine for something braindead where a team never fails like seasonal activities, but never for raids.
