other than for collection purposes, is there a reason for this mod other than using it at a crutch?

Players on the Forum have been wanting this and wondering when the next rotation will occur. Some players attempting legendary sectors but can not complete it may benefit from the mod. I’ve already had it but haven’t really used it because I am trying out other mods. I have no true experience with it.

When it comes to 50% damage resistance, I disagree. Getting a damage resistance buff when breaking a matching shield in GMs was our first strat when farming hung jury. While it won't prevent one shots, it significantly helps survival from splash damage attacks that break your shield and pepper fire from the likes of slug/slap rifles.

I'd rather use damage resist armor mods. 2 energy for a 50% damage reduction at ALL times. Sure it stacks with protective light for a 70% protection ...but it far from THE BEST mod. The best mod will always be either taking charge or high energy fire...and for stasis builds it is stasis shards.

The great thing is that you can run both damage resist mods and protective light. It's not a "one or the other". I don't think this is a discussion on THE BEST armor mod. That's super subjective here, THE BEST armor mod is whatever compliments your build THE BEST. The post is saying it's a really desirable armor mod and someones explaining why it's one of the most requested/used. People get shot. A lot. The forums especially lmao, so a mod that gives you some serious resist is really popular.

Fun fact. Protective light. Resist mods. Omniocules invis. The seasonal sword mod. If you use all of those you get about 1 damage from a boss stomp while you are invisible. Kind of hard to pull off though. A build i use right now makes 2 orbs of light per add i kill with my stasis shuriken. Made 400 orbs in a strike yesterday. Those melee's make stasis shards.. I pick up 1 shard (that counts as a well) to get 4x charged with light. Then striking light and thermoclastic blooming make 2 orbs per add killed by the chaining stasis melee on hunter. And the fun thing is. I can replace striking light with high energy fire or any other CWL mod .

I've been using my extra ascendant shards to experiment with different builds for different occasions. My stasis hunter builds very similar to yours with thermoclastic blooming, grim harvest, elemental shards, elemental charge, protective light, and the shards overshield fragment. It's very fun to basically avoid using weapons in dungeons/raids, but my primary light subclass build uses elemental ordnance with elemental charge and protective light, with 90-100 discipline. Nightstalker voidwalls and gunslinger incendiaries are fantastic for content where enemies die to them consistently. My next project is an armor set dedicated to top tree arcstrider.
