"Whatever happens, you will be responsible for it."
She's pointing an accusing finger at Variks but Glitch is the one responding.
"Eramis, I wouldn't go against my guardian's wishes. She has no desire to betray you or your people and especially not Variks. You may not trust me... but you can trust her, and I follow her orders."

When Glitch imagined finding and resurrecting his guardian, the last thing he had imagined was ending up in the hands of a fallen. Not a fallen pirate of course, an eliksni. Did that make it any better? This was still an eliksni who his own guardian has given much more than her loyalty to. If he could shudder, he would.
The walk back is slow and awkward, and he feels relieved when he is finally reunited with Shadow. And even though she was nothing like he could have predicted, she was his guardian. As flawed as she was, he couldn't find it in himself to part from that warm amber gaze...
And clearly neither could Variks. The scribe's hand opens from around Glitch's black shell, freeing him. He floats up into the air, shaking off his faint disgust as he tries to push away the thought of where Variks's hands have been before being wrapped around him.
He feels much more comfortable in Shadow's warm embrace, and he closes his eye against her.
...Yet despite being returned to his rightful partner, Glitch cannot fight his sense of impending disaster.
