So I'm on my second character. I am doing the "Decrypting The Darkness" quest which requires me to[b] focus[/b] an umbral engram at the [b]prismatic recaster[/b] and then [b]decode the focused umbral engram[/b] it at the [b]Umbral Decoder[/b] to complete that quest. It states this explicitly. Great. So I'm at HELM and I'm at the prismatic recaster. But the Recaster interface tells me that the Recaster is locked until I complete Decrypting the Darkness, which requires me to focus an Umbral Engram at the Prismatic Recaster and then Decode that focused Engram at the Umbral Decoder in order to complete Decrypting The Darkness. Which, still, requires me to focus an umbral engram at the prismatic recaster and then decode it at the Umbral Decoder to complete the Decrypting The Darkness quest which is needed to unlock the prismatic recaster for me. You get it. So- I did the only thing I could do which is to just use my precious unfocused umbral engram in the umbral decoder without first using the Prismatic Recaster to focus it. This worked. Ohthankgod What the heck, Bungie? This process is convoluted enough without also being placed in a goto loop, where the only way out is to gamble your precious Umbral Engram (remember, new character- it took TIME to earn one) and do something that is not part of the quest process in hopes that it will work. Ungh.
