And so...an era finally comes to an end. The old bungie.net is going to be put down.
Taken from the weekly update:
DUST AND ECHOES
Almost nine years ago, stats and files from our previous franchise, Halo, stopped getting updated on Bungie.net. Since then, all stats, files, and other data from Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST, and Halo: Reach have lived on in remembrance at halo.bungie.net.
On February 9, the halo.bungie.net website will be taken offline permanently. Everyone is welcome to save their stats and files, however they can, if they'd like to save anything. Please keep in mind that our News articles, Forums, and Groups were imported into the current version of Bungie.net back in 2013.
This makes me kind of sad. I loved the look and layout of the old website. It was easy to look at and intuitive to navigate. There were lots of memories made during those days, some good, some bad, many questionable. But old bnet had an undeniable charm...sorry to see it go.
Edit: It just occured to me that I should probably share some of my own fondest memories of the old website:
Porch day. That was one of the funniest things I've seen.
*Shishka being a sadistic SOB to anybody who broke the rules.
Clockman.
*The now defunct bnet archive of hilarity.
Spartan Ken 15, who partially inspired my Destiny-era longface persona with his countless threads.
*Coup de Bungie.
*Users mourning the death of BerzerkerBarage. This may seem like an odd one, but it was the first glimpse I had into how close people on here could become IRL.
*Lord Snakie and the ridiculous hypotheses he came up with concerning Halo's lore.
*The "superintendent" posting in green text prior to Halo ODST's launch. It freaked people out.
*The countless parody threads that plagued The Flood.
*Blaming Stosh for everything.
EDIT: Would any of you be willing to have some custom games on Halo mcc for nostalgia? (PC edition.)

This sucks to hear. Last night I took the time to download my own personal archive of halo.bungie.net. It's not exhaustive, though. I grabbed my personal stat records, the groups I was in, every news article, and some odds and ends throughout the site. I only wish I had done this sooner. A few people including myself noticed a few years back that some stats and forum sections were being quietly deleted from the website. It looks like I'll have to rely on the spotty coverage web.archive.org provides for the forums.
Hi Im Swat shared what I pointed out in a few groups - that when stats were first moved to halo.bungie.net, Bungie said they'd be there as long as Bungie's servers remained functional. So much for that I guess. :/
It sucks even more so to lose access to our emblems as avatars. They were one of the few vestiges of personalization from B.old we still had (RIP titles). I'm curious what will happen to the avatar set I'm currently using. I bugged DeeJ to get the webteam to include it in B.next when I saw they were missing. They aren't emblems per say so hopefully we can still use them along with other halo themed avatars.
