Champions make activities boring and frustrating.

So I recently got Conqueror, and I couldn't help but I hate Champions. From the simplest ones in the Bunkers to the most annoying ones on Master Nightfalls. Why do they exist? They ruin everything good about Destiny: • They ruin weapon variety • They ruin fun experiences • They ruin Subclass variety They are obnoxious and the only reason they're in the game is to make it artificially more difficult, Cabal Legionnaires take 5 shots to the head to be killed on Master difficulty, 5! Now, I do love the fact that enemies have more health, but add to that you can only use Sidearms and Swords this Season? That is boring and ruins the replayability and desire to keep running Nightfalls. I really do hope we see them removed soon, because I want to use Exotics on difficult content but oh because Deathbringer can't stun Overload Minotaurs (which are a huge problem on themselves) that weapon is now useless on endgame activities. What am I supposed to do with my Exotics? Test them out on Patrol? Come on.

    We need to see them for what they are: a mechanism of having no choice in our load out and no choice in our mods of those weapons. I'd rather that a. they were deleted, but mainly b. the bypass mechanism depended upon a game play interaction not a 'mod'. The sky's the limit on the different kinds that could be. That would be pro-choice and pro-gameplay, and even interesting versus the actual reverse currently.

  • Could not agree more. Came to the forum specifically looking for a post exactly like this. Champions are not fun. I hate how they limit weapon and perk loadouts, and I only reluctantly run champion content when I need the gear upgrades or my friends are running it. I avoid champion content whenever possible, which would be fine if some of the most significant content in the game wasn't designed around this stupid champion system. Champions suck.

  • Yea its the artifact perks that are the problem not the champions. The 3rd column is useless with its "kills have a chance to drop glimmer/materials/gunsmith telemertry. They should get rid of them and have 2 columns for Anti-barrier /overload / unstoppable mods across more weapon types. either that or start adding new weapons that have such perks on them as default.

    • I also have Conqueror and I agree. I’m all for challenge, but the way in which champions add challenge is just both frustrating and boring. They’re way too punishing, particularly when they spawn during boss fights or when multiple spawn right next to each other. They make nightfalls boring because no matter what strike it is, you’re playing the same way because of champions. None of them are unique. I’d much rather them have modifiers that make the unique properties of a strike more powerful. For example, a modifier that makes certain Hive units more powerful. These could be mixed with positive modifiers to give players some sense of power back. On that note, elemental burns in D1 were much better since they did 2x damage both ways. They made enemies very dangerous, but also made you very powerful.

      • I agree with you that champions are annoying but Omnigul is the last of Crota's Generals. She is the architect of her masters wakening. As long as she lives, the threat of Crota's return will haunt this world. Track her down and exterminate every Hive that stands in your way.

          If I’m having trouble with a Champion it just means I haven’t equipped the right guns/mods, so that’s on me. But you’re right though... it sucks that we have to play with a very specific loadout to deal with bullet sponges that are just normal enemies but “stronger”. I don’t want to be forced to equip weapons I don’t normally use. Bungie might call it “pushing me out of my comfort zone”, but I just call it “annoying”.

        • The problem isnt the Champions but the restriction in the artifact. The artifact should come with the mods but no restriction on what weapons you use for those mods. It is dumb because it makes that set weapon or weapons the META for that season along with the sandbox changes.

          • I wouldn't mind champions if it wasn't for their mechanics. Sure I could deal with a barrier champion if it couldn't shoot me while it was invincible. I could handle unstoppable ogres, if they didn't one shot immediately after the game says I staggered them.

          • They are so annoying that I want to avoid everything they are in. Mod's are restricted and feel underwhelming when fighting them alone, regen is also way to high. I personally think Champions are half backed and hope they are gone in season 12.

            • Load out restriction is the real problem here. Don’t want to have to use hand cannon, Eriana’s, sword for every endgame challenge.

              Champions themselves are fine. The issue is that champion mods can only be equipped on certain weapons and those weapons change every season. ALL weapons should allow a champion mod and overload rounds shouldnt require a ton of uninterrupted shots because the constant teleporting makes stuns extremely difficult (1 person is forced to use divinity).

            • Champions by themselves aren’t bad, but in recent content it seems like the sole focus of the activity is based around the champions, which is bad.

            • Yep this was a very poorly thought out idea, what would have been cool is if a champion had been a hidden enemy in the strike and he was very hard to kill but if you killed him he had his own loot pool and you got something cool from it, but hey what do i know.

            • Personally, I like champions. I think they're a cool premise for an enemy type. The loadout restrictions are the problem.

              🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 this is so “mad cuz bad” it’s not even funny. Champions are a JOKE. Also, every weapon is not meant to be effective in every activity all the time. Bungie makes weapons for a broad spectrum of players.

                  The whole design is stupid. Once u have the right mods they are stupidly easy. So whats the point to have them ? I also hate them. Group of yellow bars is more challenging than champions. But yeah thats the creativity bar that bungie can reach these days. I would rather have something crazy like spawn of 10 major ogres or something like 20 hive knights in a small room. Not this stupid load-out limiting shit.
