Revitalizing core content is what Destiny 2 needs, not seasonal content that comes and goes.

Hi, yeah its me, another person complaining about seasonal content, but instead of mindlessly saying how something is bad and " plz fix gaem" , I would like to give some feedback to work with and perhaps even spark a conversation if it catches attention on what would be the best move forward in the future. " Part-1" is the critique of seasonal content, " Part-2" is the suggestion on what alternative to go for . So if you want to CTRL+F, there you go. The TL;DR of all this is that seasonal content as we know it ain't it chief. Work on what is already in the game, give it improvements, changes and some love. The content we have right now is very solid, so might just improve on that instead while we wait for the big content add ons to come out in September/October Part-1 We are now in the middle of season of Worthy, the third season that introduced time gated content to the game and things aren't looking good. People aren't happy with the concept of 1 activity to come and go every 3 months , especially when it leaves no impact on the game in the first place. For the players that do play in each season, the content is very, very light. The activities tend to be simple, too repetitive and the majority of milestones to chase within that season are 90% done in activities that excisted already in the game beforehand. Fractaline farming was for example done mostly doing Strikes, Crucible and Gambit. The current model is no different either. People can play the same public event only for so and so long before it gets boring. For casual players, that model is the worst as well. Anyone that took a break during Shadowkeep for example would return to a game ,six months later ,that has nothing new or exciting added with the exception of Trials of Osiris. If these people aren't into hardcore PvP, then practicly nothing changed since then. QoL and sandbox updates for sure, but content is still the same. The main issue is essentially that the game doesn't evolve in terms of content and the quality of it. Newer things are being added with an expiration date and older content that is still pretty good gets left behind, which ultimativly lead to people feeling like there's nothing to play at all. Obviously people need somewhat new content to come back to and Bungie themselfs gave reasons and explainations why they chose to go the path of seasonal content but this isn't working out. So what alternative is there to be done when content creation takes time, yet people need content to play? There is one solution that would work. Part-2 Revitalize the content that already excists in the game! There is a lot of content in the game that excists right now, yet for a lot of players that content has no meaning to them and therefore chose to not play that anymore. Reasons can be plenty from the loot being stale all the way to them reaching the point where they've gotten everything the activity has to offer. Especially on Year 1 content, that benchmark can be hit quickly. Same with strikes. You can do the same strikes at the same difficulty only for so and so long when nothing changes for a good year now. But if that content would be looked at and given a special touch every season, people would find themselfs to a lot more content to play without having a need to always bring new stuff that is a hit or miss sort of deal. For example back then in Destiny 1, year 3, the Age of Triumph update revitalized older raids with updated gear , cool ornaments earned via in-game challenges and few changes to certain encounters and all of a suddenly the amount of relevant raids for players to get engaged to increased from 2 to 4. For some people that was already their weekend plans covered. In Destiny 2, Nightfalls have gained a revitalization as well that worked out great! Nightfall Ordeals. They have several difficulty modes to select with a reward structure that gets players interested. The higher the challenge, the better the rewards and those are really good rewards! Why not do the same for raids , regular strikes, patrol areas and so on? High challenge versions with better rewards Give raids that Age of Triumph update. Give them several difficulty levels, with high risk/ high rewards. A hard mode with adept versions of the guns that are at place in the game already, could spark interests. An adept gun could have an intrinsic perk that gives bonus damage against a specific faction. That would make them strong but not too strong. Some new mods dropping from raids would be fantastic, given the fact that the mod-game has been on point lately! Give strikes more difficulty playlists that reward players with better loot when played at the higher difficulty. Have a vendor refresh there too. The Menagerie could be revitalized a lot if the lootpool would changed each season. Keep the Menagerie specific gear at place there, but rotate all the other items each season. 75% of that loot pool is full of items you can get from somewhere else anyway. Swapping that out with other items from different areas would totally get people back into that content bit! Update Gambit and Gambit Prime with some quality of life updates, especially for regular Gambit. Forges could have rotating bounties of weapons to farm each season. It doesn't always have to be the newest weapons, but I'm sure if something that is rare or playlist specific was availible via forges like lets say a season of the undying weapon, there would be new reasons for people to play this. Patrol areas with higher powerlevel requirements or difficulty levels as well as story and adventure missions that could reward far better rewards would be a game changer. Imagine it like this. You select earth, the game opens up a menu that gives you normal mode ( starting levels), hard mode( bare minimum is level cap of past season) and legend mode ( powerlevel recommendation is current max power) and based on that difficulty, you have higher challenge in those patrol areas as well as tougher lost sectors, public events and other curiosities, but you also have increased rewards. Like pinnacle legendary drops, upgrade materials, ascendant shards and exotics to earn. Like the Nightfall Ordeal basicy. That would make patroling a far more interesting thing and relevant as well for every player. There's plenty of other ideas and approaches to be done. But I firmly believe if the focus would be laid towards improving and adding on what is already in the game , players would be more happy and be far more willing to wait longer for true big content drops over drip fed content snacks sprinkled across the seasons. But that's just 1 person's perspective. Either way, the current direction Destiny 2 is going is not the one that a ot of players enjoy right now. A drastic change is needed.

  • Agreed, they need to get into the habit of revisiting and updating old content. Prison of Elders in D1 was a good example what seems like seasonal content by today's standards- but they didn't leave it in the dust. Sure it wasn't update for a whole year- but they added new things to it instead of creating an entirely different mode that was similar. Strikes- sure it was something they did at the ass-end of D1 again, but the revitalized strikes during Rise of Iron were some of the dopest updates and re-hashing of old content you could ask for. I think instead of new MODES (Escalation, Menagerie, Forges) we need overhauls to existing content that makes it feel new. That paired with new content that is PART of the old model (new PvP maps, new strikes vs new activities) I think the game will become alot more focused and better off. One of the BIGGEST things that I feel is slept on as an idea- is a NIGHTFALL overhaul. Sure, strikes having the minutes variations of enemies and such is neat. Again even the more comprehensive rehashes like they did in D1 were really neat too. But what if Nightfalls were COMPLETE reduxes of existing/regular strikes? What if when you load into the NF version of the Pyamidion- it's not the strike against Brakion but instead the time-traveling HoW lead by Skolas? AND what if the platforming sections/puzzles were COMPLETELY different? What if the NF version of the arms-dealer was canonically AFTER the original strike and maybe Bracus Zhan had a prototype for the Calus bot hidden in the base that's gone out of control or something? The main cornerstone of these strikes is they would be NEW Nightfall EXCLUSIVE variants, which will help keep them fresh in general- but also act as a sorta safe way to progress or add some kinda follow-up to the side-stories that the strikes often provide or introduce.
