The mid engine thing I feel is a stab at the Ford GT. It has been successful in sales as well as the track, beating the Corvette more often than not the past couple of years. But also I feel like Corvette wants to be recognized as a 'super' car by the Euro manufacturers. The mid engine platform is more stable for track use, but with the Ford GT dropping out of the ALMS and European car circuits next year, nothing will be proven.
As for the SUV....... money grab. Pure and simple.
