This is a large multitude of questions so beware. Also I realize more than half of these you probably won't be able to answer, so please don't feel pressured.
1. What are the Hive EXACTLY?
To my understanding, they were a peaceful race until they were corrupted by the Worm Gods some way or another. Is that true or confirmed in some shape or form?
2. Are the Hive what the Darkness uses to show its hunger and hatred for Light?
3. Are the Taken and Hive on the same side? Honestly, I found this rather confusing in TTK. Are the Taken and Hive on the same side? Are the Hive a sort of servant to the Taken?
4. To be Taken, do you have to be taken by Oryx?
5. How does the Hive ranking process work? Is every Hive unit just a mutated thrall, some tortured more than others?
6. What are the Worm Gods? Are they the Darkness's physical form, how the Traveller is the Light's physical form in a way?
alright I'm done. It's all ogre now.
1. The Hive were once a species of krill that were wooed to the Darkness by the worm gods and now they crusade in the name of the Deep. 2. Yes. In this particular battle in the eternal Light-Darkness conflict, anyways. 3. Yes they are. To be Taken is to be pulled across the Veil and spoken to directly by the Darkness. This perfects then, but also tortures them and erodes their will. The Hive revere the Taken because the Taken are touched directly by the Darkness. 4. Yes. Oryx is the only being ever who could Take. (Hence why I don't think the Dawning strikes are canon; they go against the lore.) 5. That question takes way too much explaining to fit in a single comment. Fortunately, at the bottom of this Ogre post, I linked a post by my fellow lorist foxburton. It has the answer to this question. 6. The worm gods (along with Oryx) were the Deep's highest ranking servants. They are not the Darkness itself though. There is also some connection between the worm gods and the Ahamkara. Whether or not these are related or the same species is unknown.

The taken serve Oryx, Oryx riles the Hive. 4. Yes. 5. Thrall, acolyte or ogre, if acolyte then knight or wizard. 6. They're part of the darkness, but the darkness isn't really defined.

The Darkness is a general term adopted by those who wield the Light of the Traveler. So technically anything that seeks to harm the Traveler is "darkness". We see this in the a Fallen's repeated attempts to reclaim the Traveler; which of course they used to own. Also, Oryx himself says that "What you call The Darkness is the end of your evolution". Seemingly, Oryx and crew either: 1). Don't see themselves as part of the Darkness but acknowledge it exists. 2). Think that the Guardians are referring to the Hive when referencing The Darkness
