See when Ttk trailer came out, I started getting excited that ship battles were coming, alas no but it would be awesome l, ship strikes... Dealing with adds while a boss ship is flying around and you need to fly to a specific safe zone or strafing missions over cabal bases while they are using turrets and space jet packs to kick your ass.

You could mix it up and have a ship bombing mission raid part where 3 guardians on the ground face overwhelming odds unless the overhead team bomb. Or there's a cannon on the ground that destroys all ships unless disabled by the ground team and a large boss on the ground that wipes the ground team unless the ships take them out. Possibilities are endless.
Quite a large mechanic to implement though I would imagine

But no you sir have done something much better destiny REALLY SHOULD HAVE VEHICLE BASED STRIKES VEHICLE RAID AND BETTER VEHICLE FOCUSED GAME MODE
I like all your ideas, there are so many think tank concepts that could be put into ship activities without detracting from the ground based activities.
When bungee have a concept, they should say, concept: ship battles - ideas go... Then the community provide input to the concept and the most viable are taken forward.
Just thought of an excellent one. Fallen walker strike guardians hijack a fallen walker each guardian gets a different function. Movement shock wave and grenades for 1 machine gun and repurposed shank deployment. And the last the being the launcher and laser canon
